Utility Providers - Melbourne CBD

Hello,

I've just signed a lease for a studio apartment in Melbourne CBD.

I have the company Connectnow wanting to speak to me re utilities, but I honestly doubt I'd be able to get the best deal through them. They probably have some partnership with the rental agency.

Any recommendations of utility providers for electricity, water and internet?

From my understanding, OVO energy is supposed to be a good option for electricity.

Thank you

Update: Just found out it's part of an embedded network, so my options would be limited.

Further update: I can only choose my internet provider. Electricity is with Winconnect, gas is with Origin Gas.

  • Water: There won't be any options but one. The Estate Agent should tell you who it is. Some even initiate the transfer to your name already.
Electricity: Shop around. Energy is Energy; it's just the retailer who charges the price, so shop around. I am currently with Energy Australia.
Internet: What is available? NBN? Or is there some private solution in place?

    Go solar…

    • Unfortunately, I don't have the authority to install solar panels on top of an apartment building part of an embedded network 😂

        It doesn't hurt to ask…

Water for Melbourne CBD is only from Greater Western Water: https://www.gww.com.au/
If the units in your apartment have separate meters, then renters are only responsible for paying for water usage directly to the supplier. If there are no separate meters, than the landlord has to cover all water charges: https://tenantsvic.org.au/advice/during-your-tenancy/utility…
