I believe this is new all time low!
Best game on vr?
Not much else to say :)

It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem: not enough gamers have transitioned into regular-VR-gamers, partly because there aren't many must-play system-seller "killer app" games like Alyx yet.
And because there's only a few million VR gamers (compared to hundreds of millions of console/PC gamers), studios won't spend the time and money making these sort of true full-length grandbreaking AAA titles.
All except Valve, who aren't publicly-owned, actually care about gamers, love what they do, and can afford to waste tens of millions on making something just because it's awesome, whether or not it sells enough copies to make a profit. (Valve makes more money per employee than Google, MS, Facebook, Apple, etc).
I think its more of Meta is the new VR king and its a standalone so they wont invest into it to the same level, I mean for a standalone Q3 does an amazing job but it will still be a generation or two till they can catch up to PCVR if that.
Their re4 VR is on the same level as HLA but it was made for quest 2 standalone and graphics are shit but gameplay and the rest is on par.
Valve hasnt released info on how much the games cost to make and what they made out of it so we dont know how profitable it was but damn, the game is that good that you would buy VR to play it.
zuck actively did all he could to kill PCVR. 80% of what was good or exciting for PCVR was bought out by zuck and any updates were only available for the quest or the games were downgraded to support cross platform. i went back through my VR library looking for what games had been updated with new content and checking the discussions page it is truely shocking how many of my games this happened for. the sim community is the only thing holding up PCVR.
Alyx exists because Valve wanted a killer title to sell their VR headsets. They care about money not gamers. What Valve fans really want is HL3 and TF3.
Valve gave multiple game devs 250 000USD to develop VR games even if it was an oculus exclusive. IE they would not be sold on steam. They care about VR succeeding which is why they made HLA. They care about money but they do care about gaming.
Yup, the only game in the last 5yrs I actually finished… haven't touch the Oculus since.
Think I might go back and play it again.
Personally sold my quest 3 for a steam deck, I loved Alyx, and my issue being no games come close towards what alyx can offer for myself. But i was more than happy with my decision to actually experience it.
It's crazy that this game is STILL the best VR game to exist, it's been so many years now and nothing even compares.
Have you actually played a lot of recent games. I feel like a lot of the people that say this is the best game and nothing comes close haven't played anything in 5 years.
i have yes, but do share what you think comes close?
which game has better graphics and level of detail?
which game has better mechanics like gun use, gloves?
Which game has better atmosphere and level design? some of those levels in the dark, hotel, etc are just amazing.
maybe you forgot about it if you haven't played it in a while?
It depends if you are also factoring Hybrid games into this conversation.
RE4, RE Village, Batman Arkham Shadow and Gran Turismo are all peak VR.
Also Hitman this month on PSVR2 could compete as well.
But to say nothing has come close is a bit misleading.
@robbiey: Sorry but I bought a psvr2 for GT7 and was super let down, probably the most over hyped thing ever, maybe it was the crappy lenses or mura or crappy image, but it was nothing special.
Got a quest 3 instead and is way better in almost every way. The contrast is not as bad as people claim it to be.
Quest 3 wireless PCVR with virtual desktop is amazing!
H3 for gun use. falls flat everywhere else but still.
If it wasn't for driving sims and DCS I'd have shitcanned my quest3 inside of a couple of weeks. There are basically 4 kinds of games for it: poorly shoehorned into VR game that would be better on flatscreen, ropey Unity assetflip style physics sandbox, on rails lightgun shooter, and goriallatag clone. Alyx stands out by being a higher budget source physics sandbox instead, and the assets are flipped from a proper game with high production values. It's pretty grim that it's still the high water mark for the platform.
What a completely useless comment :D
I don't
I don't….. I am an Ozbargainer so why the heck would I pay full retail?
I don't. Haha got a 9070XT with a 7800XT build coming soon. This is tempting and a good reason to dust off the Quest 2.
Dumb/odd question. Do you play this sitting down?
It's pretty alright on Quest, it supports moving in the room and there are a few instances where it's better to physically move to peer under objects, step and lean around things, etc. The movement system is built around teleporting but you can to a large extent physically walk around in most of the spaces in the game.
I haven't touched my quest 2 in over a year and I'm trying to think if finally getting this would make me pick it up again.
Coming to PSVR2 wen?
Today! assuming you have a pc capable of running it. (I played it on 5700xt and it was a good experience) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/playstation-vr2-pc-adapteā¦
PlayStation when?
Dumb question How do people play this game with guest3? I have quest 3 and Steam game, do I use Steam link to connect both device? And run from PC to quest? Thanks!
Correct. I used steam link. However if your net is a bit shoddy you can use a cable to directly connect PC to the Quest 3.
via wireless, you need to buy a program call virtual desktop on quest store
enables you to play everything in near perfect quality wirelessly streamed from your pc
I was sceptical at first but it is magic!
You don't need virtual desktop the built in airlink does this and is free
This is the way. Steam Link works and wireless, is very user friendly. Install Steam link on the PC and headset.
Worked for well for HalfLife Alyx, Dirt Rally 2.0. Hellblade, Star Wars Squadrons on Quest 3 with a GTX 3060 laptop. Just make sure your PC is hardwired to your router. Doesn't work well in wifi. Very cheap games too usually.
Thinking about it makes me want to jump back in. After work it's so much less effort with an xbox controller and a regular screen.
Then there's the UEVR mod. Enables any Unreal Engine 4 & 5 game to run in VR (some better than others).
That this is free unlocks a ton of games in VR, but likely requires a bit of tinkering for best results.
Thanks OP. Have been holding out for this to go on sale.
Is this worth playing in non-VR? There's some mod for that, right?
Yeah it exists, and it works but the decision is entirely yours of course
Would love if they remade this game without VR as I don't have a VR system. Maybe one day the guys who made Black Mesa will do HL Alyx too
Black mesa was awesome. Those guys are working on a new game (unfortunately in ue5): https://store.steampowered.com/app/1843840/Rogue_Point/
There are mods to do this! But the game is purpose built for VR - a lot of the mechanics are fun specifically because it's a true first person view that you play with your own physical movements.
$26.38
26x38 => 988
988 = 9+8+8 => 25
25: The difference between 2 & 5 is 3.
Half Life 3 confirmed.
Apparently it is, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Might be the best game of all time.

Played this on PC with the NoVR mod. Still an incredible experience and perfectly fine way to experience the story if you have no interest in VR. Graphics are insane for a Source 2 game, and it ran flawlessly on my 3070 at 1080p on max settings.
it's like saying I went to Moscow in Street View… sure it might be incredible on a monitor, but in VR it will BLOW YOUR MIND.
I've never owned a VR headset but I'm tempted to get one just to play this game through once.
Is there a model VR headset (new or used) that can be resold quite easily, with not too much loss of value?
buy Meta Quest 2 2nd hand or the Meta Quest 3S and then resell probably lose around $100 value depending on how quick you are
what do you reckon one should pay for a used Meta Quest 2?
i think my friend sold his for $300 a year ago but sorry I dont really keep track of 2nd hand market.
Best game and it's 5 years old .
Every now and then I go back in to play it and wonder how they haven't been able to make anything that comes close to this yet
