Best HFC NBN 1000/50 with Dynamic IP

Been with DCSI for ages, Dynamic IP never changed but their pricing is getting out of hand. If I'm going to spend $80 a month on 50/20 may as well go $20 more and 20X my speed with a new provider.

Any HFC recommendations with sweetener deals and OZB random referral page links please.

I'm on 250/100 for $85 with static ip.

    • Is that superloop business? because I was thinking of going on that after I had a bit of fun with 1000?

      • yes

        edit:
apparently you can't do it for HFC

        • +1

HFC is limited to 50 up

          • @Joshminey: Why?

The physical cable is the same whether up or down?

If it can handle 1000/50, it can certainly handle 250/100

@jv: HFC networks prioritise download speeds due to asymmetric bandwidth allocation in cable systems. HFC favours most user demands like streaming, while upload speeds are limited by shared channel capacity and upstream interference management.

              • @Joshminey:

                upstream interference management.

that is not at the physical layer though…

                physically, there is no difference.

                • +1

@jv: Physically, the coaxial cable used in HFC networks is indeed symmetrical and capable of handling data equally in both directions. The asymmetry arises from how the network is designed and the frequency spectrum is allocated. HFC systems dedicate more spectrum to downstream (download) frequencies than upstream (upload) frequencies

                  • @Joshminey:

                    how the network is designed

                    So they should fix it…

They've been doing this all along with the other speeds.

                    • @jv: they could allocate more spectrum for uploads and aim for symmetrical speeds, but it's a trade-off.

                      • @Joshminey: I don't think they need to be symmetrical, but with people working from home, some workers may need more upload speeds and since HFC connections cannot be easily migrated to fibre without paying an arm and a leg, they should look at increase uploads to at least 100 for these customers.

      yep. The Technology has advanced!

Plenty of great deals like this can be found easily on NBN comparison sites like:

That's actually a pretty decent plan with high upload speed which I was after. Thanks man.

      • It's good value… You just need to have an ABN as it gets billed to your Business name.

        • Yea I do have an ABN. I signed up for exetel a month ago with topcashback. Will have to check T&C. I was struggling a lot with my uploads on 40Mbps.

@igeekyayush: With Superloop, I've been getting 80-89 upload speeds on this plan…

            Download has been 250-270…

Optus have 1000/50 for 94 a month for the first 6 months I've been with them before and they are pretty good they have dynamic IP. Leaptel seems to be recommended a lot on here as well they are 99 a month for the first 12 months but come with CGNAT by default so you will have to opt out if you want a public IP address.

Leaptel has been great and you can disable CGNAT from your online account dashboard

      Optus

In some cultures that may be considered an insult.

      For example, in Australia.

Why do you specifically want a dynamic IP?
