I have one of these and use it as my primary generator, very happy with it. I originally bought it on release from Aussie Outback Store. I found the special whilst making a reply for this forum discussion.

Available for $699 via Amazon

It terms of comparison other options are:

  • Kings 3.0kva which is generally around $399 on special. However stock sometimes take a while.
  • XTM 2000W Inverter Generator Closed Frame from Supercheap pr from BCF which is $599 at Club Price'

For under $600 for a 3.5kva, I think it is pretty good value for its size and features.

Your forum discussion link is broken? I am seriously thinking about purchasing one of these since recent the power outages in SE Qld.

Just a warning on Kings stuff they like to drag feet when it comes to warranty.

  • Tesla can now go further 😂😂😂

  • Can this make my Tesla an ICE again?

so any reason you'd get this over the GenTrax 3.5kw $473 ebay (using off20)

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271505082427

more outlets, but most importantly a 12L vs 4L tank! As someone whose surrounded by noisy gennies for 7 days & counting. The number of "humhumhumbrrr brrrr brrrrrrrrrrr <silence> f@*&, we're outta fuel again" I've heard.

    • Also a good deal. The GenTrax is max 3.5kw otherwise 3kw, the maXpeedingrods is always 3.5kw.

I guess also the size of the maXpeedingrods is a bit smaller. Obviously a larger tank is a bonus.

        the maXpeedingrods is always 3.5kw.

But according to your description for the maXpeedingrods:

With 3500 peak watts and 3000 running watts

        Isn't that the same?

        • Sorry, yes, I am wrong and yes they are the same.

      • the maXpeedingrods

With 3500 peak watts and 3000 running watts

        which I believe is 3500w for a brief time & 3000w continuous.

        the Gentrax is the same.

        • Sorry, yes, I am wrong and yes they are the same.

Usually the open frame design like the Gentrax is much louder (less silenced) than the maXpeedingrods style

      • 58db vs 65db if you believe the specs. It does not list the height for the MXR3500, just length at 48cm and width at 29cm, whereas the Gentrax is listed with net dimension L x W x H 445 x 425 x 445 mm. Looking at the pictures and that info, they are about the same length and height, but the MXR3500 is about 15cm narrower. And about 10kg lighter.

        • MXR3500 should be 48cm tall x 29cm wide x 44cm deep if the specs on the eBay page are correct (Generator size 48×29×44cm)

Who the hell comes up with these brand names? 'Max Peed in Grods' ? Who's Max and what are Grods?

    • +4

Usually it’s the work experience marketing intern at the Chinese factory with basic high school English, a dream and Google to make sure the brand isn’t already trademarked.

  • So most of the time these bad boys will be sitting in storage - other than I assume draining the petrol if unused for extended time, what else do we need to do as far as maintenance/ prep for use vs storage?

Cable crossovers to get those muscles ready for the inevitable 50 pulls to get the b1tch started. Develop callouses in the off season on your knuckles to minimise associated pain.

drain carb, fresh oil, oil in cylinder and pull a few times before putting away

      • +1

Yeah see, i'd prob forget to do it or not do it right - maybe i should just go one of those bigger battery stations like ecoflow or whatever

        • +1

It will probably survive - But you want it ready to go (albeit no fuel) in an outage. Draining carb would be the most important

        • +1

your neighbours, specially those with kids will thank you :)

          • @CrazySurfaNZ: yeah , we have young kids on one side (and our two too) - but rest is mainly elderly who probably wouldnt appreciate it either.
and i guess the logistics of running a big ass extension cable from under the carport where i'd probalby have to run the genny , up to 2nd storey where the fridges and anything else i need powered is.

whereas with the power station i could just have it chilling there or very easily move it as required.

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: how are you going to charge it?

we're day 7 without power. there was no solar charging for the first 4 days.

              • @M00Cow: Yeah I was thinking prob need two batteries at minimum but the price quickly stacks up - ecoflow has an alternator adapter, which can charge with car… but prob not ideal as it’s quite slow
