Vulnerable to what? The small amount of dust while it sits there?
Maybe you just need to buy a sippy cup
I'm guessing flies and things like that. Not all homes have fly screens.
GF lives in an area where flies breed faster than rabbits.
And whenever open front/back door easily several flies make it in with you!
Her original solution was to put paper towel over an open drink - then found a solution on Temu (that covered whole can/cup).
They go through like 4 cans of bug spray each week … Yet still can't fully kill the flies inside (suburb has wetlands/marsh nearby) … So most likely cause.
They already exist.
Ikea sells silicone cup/mug covers for sealing between uses and a couple of companies make sippy cup style covers to use on a regular mug instead of using a “keepcup” or takeaway coffee cup

There is a billion cups on the market with lids…..
Wife bought some silicone cup covers for the kid’s as their cups tend to sit around with liquid in them for hours as they slowly drink them. They were flat with the silicone thin around edges and thicker in middle, little watermelon slice on top for a handle. Used for a month as currently haven’t left cupboard for two years.
I use these to keep my tea hot while it's brewing in the mug. Silicone has got to be the safest material for a cup lid.
Plenty in the baby section at kmart
My cat likes to sample any full cups or mugs left unattended. Covering them would deny her this simple pleasure
Check your local Asian groceries.
damn…Whooops
I checked Asian grocer, K-mall in Lidcombe today, they don't have any covers. Daiso have plastic/silicone type cover.
I see one in Temu for stainless steel, it may be easier to buy there.
😲
The topic made me think of that early Floyd album, A Saucerful of Secrets
Why not just store the cups upside down in the cupboards if your house is really that filled with disease.
My favourite mug could fit a Pringles lid on it perfectly.
i love micro plastics in all my drinks, please give me more plastic lids / cups / plates / spoons / folks!
