If clamping an inverter to my nissan leaf 12v battery to run a fridge (the 12v is then charged from the main battery as it drains) could this be used to attach another 12v (to charge) from the 12v car battery and run the fridge from that 12v instead? I read such a setup might ease the wear on my car 12v from running a fridge like this?
I think, at the least, you’ll want a proper dual battery system to not drain your main battery.
My use case is for my caravan hook up through the hitch anderson plug to the alternator.
You 'should' be able to but I'd be inclined to search around and see if you can find other people that have done it, and learn from their experience…
I'd also be looking around to find out what the Leafs 12v battery charge current is, like, if the Leaf only charges it's 12v battery at 10 amps, this 50 amp charger would be overkill…
You can set input current limiting in the Victron so it doesn't try to draw more than what the leaf can supply to it's 12v battery, and such, so if the leaf only charges it's 12v battery at 10 amps, you could set the input current limiting in the Victron to 8 amps so it doesn't stress the Leafs system…
You can set the 'start charge' voltage in the Victron, so you should be able to jiggle that so it only charges the second battery when the leaf is charging it's 12v battery…
