Best 55" 4K 60hz TV for Computer Usage under $800

Looking for the best 55" 4K 60hz TV for computer usage under $800.

The use case scenario is it will be sitting high up on a shelf as my second screen connected to my desktop PC so it will not be my primary screen or running anything major just maybe some 4k blurays and youtube 4k videos and discord streams.

I will be sitting about 1.5m away from it and it will be just running windows desktop in 4k and used for like watching movies/youtube/discord so maybe brightness will be a plus in this scenario.

No gaming will be played on it so I don't need any fast response times or anything above 60hz if that helps lessens my budget.

Only real thing I need to consider is it won't be affected by bad viewing angles as it will be a bit high up and I basically will be looking up at it at all times.

Also I am avoiding OLED or anything with any sort of screen burn in as I leave my pc running most of the time and I don't want to afk and get screen burn in with static images.

Max size I can fit is 55 inches but I can also take 50 inch recommendations but nothing lesser and it has to be 4K so nothing FHD.

Trying not to spend more than $800 but any notable mentions up to $1200 I might consider but realistically trying to spend less than $800.

If you have any more questions for me just comment below and I can answer.

Oh my location is Sydney NSW if that helps but I will need to get it delivered as I don't have a vehicle to pick up in store.

Thanks and I hope you are having a lovely week.

Go for a TV with an RGB pixel layout over one with BGR for better text clarity. More info here

    • Thanks for the reminder will keep it in mind. Have you got any recommendations that might have this with these specs?

  • Those ergos sound rough on your neck long term. Maybe consider not mounting it up high.

I'm in a reclining chair so it's not too bad it's in my peripheral still so it's not as bad as it might sound but yes thank you its good to remember that long term my neck might hate me for this. So I appreciate it thank you.

  • Treat yourself to one with decent HDR, zoned backlighting. It makes such a big difference for TV and movies and games. And because you want a smaller TV you just might be able to find one for "around" $800.

    • Any good examples

      • Years and years ago I paid $1000 for a 55 inch Hisense that had zoned backlighting and although the zones were large, causing a bit of a halo effect around small HDR sources (like a candle or moon in the sky), it still looked great. I bet for $1,000 today you could find a great TV. HDR for a while was pretty niche, with most TVs in that price range still being edge or full lit even until recently. But today proper HDR is finally more popular, finally a mainstream feature in good TVs. All TVs have on the box that they have "HDR", but for real HDR you need a certain amount of peak brightness, and you need lighting zones so the bright parts of an image can reach that peak brightness while the dark areas of the same image can have their inky blacks. Like in a movie if there's a light at the end of the tunnel, it should look like the circle of light is a flashlight shining at you, so bright it almost blinds you, whilst the dark areas on the rest of the screen aren't bright. Anyway just do a bit of research and definitely don't buy an edge lit or full backlit TV without dimming zones.

        • What's a pretty common one these days is it tcl or Samsung mainly

  • I wonder if a projector could work in this situation? Pop-up screen on a stand, or find a way to mount it to the furniture etc where you need it. Have the projector behind/beside the bed, long hdmi cable

    • are they safe to leave on for days at time?

i keep my pc on for weeks at a time nowadays sometimes i go back to turning it off daily but recently i have just been leaving it unattended.. i dont know if a warm room and a projector would fit well
