Storebought Salad Dressings - Healthy Options

Hey everyone! I’m tired of the same old salad dressings - salt, pepper, olive oil, and lime juice. I can’t make my own dressing due to time constraints, and it’s hard to find healthy store-bought salad dressings in Sydney . Everything I see has in Colesworth has canola oil or high fat content. Can you recommend some places where I can find healthier options?

Also, Can you please order the following based on health? I prefer spicy ones with a bit of kick.

Tabasco
Mustard sauce
Soy sauce
Apple cider vinegar
Ranch
Balsamic

  • Mix some good balsamic vinegar with good mayo to the consistency/ratio that suits. (experiment) You'll never go back.
    You're welcome.

Have not found a "good" mayo. They're all made from some form of seed oil.

      • Yeah, my local wool/coles didn’t have any mayo that didn’t have canola, soy or unspecified vegetable oil when I last looked.

ACV and balsamic are the only single element items on the list aren't they?
So in that order I'd say 'healthiest, whatever that is defined as.(soooo variable)

  • Praise have a range of healthier, less sugar, fat-free options with no canola oil. Example: https://www.coles.com.au/product/praise-fat-free-25percent-l…

    or https://www.coles.com.au/product/praise-fat-free-25percent-l…

They're typically quite heavy on the garlic though so your tastes may vary.

I can’t make my own dressing due to time constraints

This is just an excuse, it takes me less than 5 minutes to make a delicious salad dressing at home without all the extra added preservative crap.

Takes me more than 10 minutes to make a disgusting salad dressing at home

just put apple cider vinegar, mustard, honey, oil and salt & pepper into a jar then give it a quick shake, it will take you 2 minutes

  • Pickled ginger can be a nice addition depending on the salad. Also changing up what’s in the salad like nuts, seeds, fruit etc can change the flavour.

In terms of health I depends what your concern is. If you’re trying to limit calories steer clear of the creamy ones (ranch, mayo etc) even if they are low fat. If your concern is salt steer clear of soy sauce. Everyone should really limit salt but few of us do.

Here’s a ranking of the salad dressings based on general healthiness, from healthiest to least healthy, considering factors like calorie content, sugar, sodium, and additives:
    1. Apple Cider Vinegar – The healthiest option, as it contains no calories, sugar, or fat. It may aid digestion and blood sugar control.
    2. Balsamic Vinegar – Also a healthy choice, low in calories and sugar, with antioxidants that may benefit heart health.
    3. Tabasco – Very low in calories and fat, but it contains some sodium. Still a good option in moderation.
    4. Mustard Sauce – Typically low in calories and fat, but some varieties contain added sugar and sodium, so check labels.
    5. Soy Sauce – Low in calories but very high in sodium, which can contribute to high blood pressure if consumed excessively.
    6. Ranch – The least healthy option, as it is high in calories, fat, and often contains additives and preservatives.

You can absolutely make your own dressing, even with time constraints.

Just chuck some olive oil, vinegar and mustard in a jar and shake. Or make a larger batch for multiple meals

    google some other receipes

You do need a nice olive oil though, Cobram Estate Ultra Premium, or something nice from the italian deli.

You can also get yuzu juice from the asian grocery as a lemon/vinegar replacement

If you haven't got time to make salad dressings, you probably haven't got time to make a salad.

    (I'm glad we talked). :+)

I have a Persian feta jar in my fridge. The oil from that, and a bit of balsamic, would make a great dressing. It has herbs, garlic, pepper corns, etc already in it.

  • pomegranate molasses
    lemon, evoo

  • olive oil?

  • How do u eat olive oil op?

I only ever really dipped bread with it
