There's no reason to buy an ultimate for anything above $60 imo. The new model is 62 USD delivered from 8bitdo directly. This model will soon be cleared out

Interesting. Whats upgraded with the 2? $62 USD is $99 AUD converted over. So is it $27 better?

      • +2

Haven't read too much into it but amongst other things it has the new tech TMR that supercedes the hall effect. Supposedly multiple times more accurate.

Depends on use case, i guess. A casual gamer who plays the odd game probably won't care, but key differences are
        - TMR joysticks with rgb cock ring under them
        - Back buttons
        - Hall effect and mode switching triggers
        - Six axis motion control support
        - Better wireless connectivity (according to 8bitdo) with their new "8 speed" 2.4ghz tech. Will also prob use newer bluetooth protocol.

Are those $27 better? For me, very much so. It's all around newer tech and the ultimate has been around for a long ass time without a real update, so I'm excited.
Now to convince myself I need it when i just got the wu kong 2c last year. Might get my son to drop it a few times

I agree with you but for approx. $100 AUD there are other good options to consider like Vader 4 pro or Gamesir Cyclone 2 from Aliexpress.

      • Got both Vader 4 Pro and 8BitDo 3 Mode. Ordered the Ultimate 2.

I sway towards 8BitDo because I liked the shape. Both are excellent controllers. Can't fault either if you decide to pick one.

I'd say if you are used to solely Xbox then Vader, if you prefer Switch controller than 8BitDo.

      • Any reliable aliexpress sellers for Gamesir cyclone 2?

        • Centrecom is selling for $82, might be slightly cheaper on Aliexpress to be safe read the T&Cs & buy directly from Gamesir.

    • Already bought ultimate 2, can't wait to get it. I had the Vaper 4 Pro and 3 Mode 8BitDo.

Both are awesome controllers, but I swayed to the shape of the 8bitdo.

60$ + 2$ shipping which is express from China, ordered it Wednesday last week, expecting it this week

Damn that’s a great purple… already have a white I never use ahh

      It’s got that GameCube vibe

A man can never have enough controllers.

  • How is this compared to the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller? It's currently on sale at $63

    • So I actually have the Pro 2. Its been relegated to switch only because I'm a dumbass and my brain doesnt function properly with the inverted buttons. Every time the quickevents or menu tells me to click something I fail.

Otherwise its more of Xbox controller feel vs PS1 controller feel, for a casual gamer like me. I dont know enough about the tech or differences to tell you if one is better than the other.

  • Does this work in a Tesla?

    • Nah get the bluetooth version for Tesla. I got a blue bluetooth version and swapped out the buttons and remapped it to Xbox controller style.

Saves having to plug in and use your only USB port, which you will if you get the 2.4ghz version.

The bluetooth version has 2.4ghz and bluetooth

Also much cheaper off AliExpress and they're legit if you buy from 8bitdo shop on AliE

      • Oh wow, good call. I was not even aware this was the non Bluetooth version when I first posted. Even more reason to hold off. I would say buying at a good price from local is better than Ae. 8bitdo QA can be a bit spotty and the rma process with Ali would be magnitudes worse. This is coming from someone who has purchased from Ali 8bitdo store.

      • Incorrect the 2.4ghz model comes with Bluetooth but was not enabled in the beginning.
You can add Bluetooth support to the 2.4ghz ultimate by updating firmware.

This has pissed off many ultimate Bluetooth owners.

        • I have that version, you are correct that Bluetooth can be used to connect to PC. But it doesn't get recognised by Steam (connected via Bluetooth) & in normal X/D input games it would require complete remapping(if it works) because whatever key I pressed it registered as completely different one & some buttons didn't even work. YMMV

This has been my only gripe with 8bitdo because even cheaper controllers have implemented stable tri-mode PC connectivity without any issues. Though this would only be needed if you are connecting multiple controllers for local multiplayer or are running short on spare ports.
