  • Cheers bought one

  • So it comes with a power cable you could connect to 12v accessories with some manual work right?

The optional hardwire kit isn't needed for this and iw just for obd2 connection?

Thinking about this vs waiting for a cheap Viofo with front and rear cams

Wow why garmin dash cam so cheap? Wasnt it a high end brand?

    • Amazon listings come with a convenient camelx3 price tracker. List price is $299 but goes on sale frequently, but not this low.

      • Thanks i thought was full price lol

  • $248 now?

  • I was researching Dashcams for someone months ago, and after posting one a few comments said "capacitor" in the spec is necessary for Australian heat waves.

google says this Garmin 47 Dashcam has a battery instead of capacitor. comments said batteries don't do well in heat and will die quickly. not sure if Garmin design is good enough for it to not matter but worth knowing. ymmv.

    • Have a very old dashcam, so old the connector is USB -Mini-B plug, replaced the pouch battery in it about 6 yrs ago … maybe 7, it was before I moved to where I am which was well over 5yrs ago, Ute sits in the sun in Far North Queensland … most people have replaced their stuff after that amount of time cause ppls always wants newer! … I'd forget about the capacitor nonsense !!!

  • Total newbie to dashcams. Had a few hit and runs in car parks lately.
Are there any dashcams that will record movement/impacts etc when the car is parked?

    • Don't know of any that "Don't" activate when the car is bumped, mine is very old and has started recording when a strong wind buffeted the car, front and rear is best, you can still get hit where the cam does not cover.

      • Good to know. The sides seem most vulnerable in car parks (at least from recent experience). Do the front or back cameras cover much of the sides? Would be great to have a 360 deg camera mounted on the roof!

    • Most modern ones are, "intelligent impact detection" sort of feature.

But you will want a separate battery for that sort of thing, as it can shorten the life of your main battery (even when enabling the safeguarding settings like min battery voltage when to turn the camera off).
