Wanted to Recommend an Aluminium Shower Caddy I've Been Using for a Year Now

I've gone through multiple stainless steel and plastic shower caddies over the years and the problem is that eventually the water penetrates the finish and results in rust which just spreads unstoppably. If it's plastic, it will at some point crack and have water ingress then it will rust the metal wireframe under the plastic.

To solve this, I bought an aluminium shower caddy because in a practical sense it does not rust if anything, it can corrode. You can look up the chemistry of aluminium corrosion but I think I might consider this caddy a product that will last me forever. It's been the first year and I've seen no lasting damage.

My use case is that I'm not big on cleaning my shower that often, I like my showers hot and I use bars of soap which usually collects somewhat on the soap dish (if you wanted to consider the effects of irregular pH on the metal)

It seems at least on Amazon, there's not really a particular brand I can identify for the shower caddy, but it has a distinct design which I liked which I found in this other listing, use at your own caution.

Design features I liked:
- Elegant wire design, maybe harder to clean but less surface area to collect grime
- Indents in the middle to hang safety razors on (I don't really use this feature, it's not a long term storage solution, ur safety razors would probably rust with the moisture in the shower) Could be okay to use to hold a razor hygienically if used with an in shower mirror.
- Hangs on top of the shower screen rather than via suction cups (I hate using suction cups, I find them completely unreliable, fail with too much weight, degrade and deform because they're plastic)
- Has towel hooks which work great, I can also splay one towel across the two hooks for better drying.
- Suction cups at the back, just to provide a cushion between the caddy and the shower screen so you can comfortably apply pressure on the caddy like using pump dispensers
- The tallest shampoo bottles only fit on the top rack, the middle rack can still fit decently sized shampoo bottles, I put my electric tooth brush standing up there.

I know about CHOICE magazine but I was hoping these kind of localised forums would be less astroturfed in terms of consumer product reviews as opposed to online review sites.

I got mine from bunnings 5 years ago and it's still going strong to this day (touch wood). Can try find it if people are interested.

  • Cheers.

  • Yeh, it looks good.

Shower caddies are the sort of thing suitable for 3d printing a custom designed one.

  • I printed a peg basket on makerworld.com.
Petg g for basket, and abs for handle (at 100% infill).
I modified the handle, as previous build fell off the line in high wind.

Edit: I guess I don't want to make Amazon's job too easy but here is the picture of the caddy I have.

So you just want to make our life harder to find it? Bezos is laughing on his boat.

The deal is always in the comments. Cheers

    • $10 more dearer than on eBay from the same mob on both marketplaces.

Proper stainless steel won't corrode. What you bought was most likely chrome plated steel. Check if a magnet sticks, 316SS is not magnetic at all and won't corrode in a shower.

While generally considered safe, aluminium can be considered "bad" because it can react with acidic or alkaline foods, potentially leaching small amounts of aluminium into the food, altering its taste, and causing discoloration, especially if the device is scratched or not properly anodized; this concern is particularly relevant for people with kidney issues who may need to limit aluminium intake.

I don't know about you, but I rarely eat off my shower caddy.

Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer was cooking whilst showering.

Plastic coated will last for a very long time if you find the small hole where wire was attached. Trim a little plastic to expose the remains of the wire, then seal with silicone. Mine are about 20 years old and still not rusty.

They sell a virtually identical product at Bunnings in multiple styles.

Better buy from PillowTalk for $23.95. Get another 15% off for first purchase, or 5%/10% off for member.

Great caddy but … the forward pointing rods at the bottom are an eye danger. I bent ours inward to reduce risk.
