I just bought a Duo Plus for $199 and, as my luck goes, the Duo Crisp comes on sale the next day. :(

Price is down to $219 and a $10 coupon brings it further down to $209. AF performance is reportedly so-so but, at this price, this is undoubtedly a nice-to-have feature.

I have this unit, and the Air Fryer is decent but not great. The basket is tiny (narrow but tall) to fit the pot so it's not suitable for roasting a chicken or a whole fish etc. It's perfect for small batches of chips, roasting veggies, chicken wings etc. If you want to reduce the number of single use appliances, this is great but definitely not as versatile or comparable to a dedicated air fryer.

    • I have the pro version and concur.

    • So is the issue with the AF mainly about its small basket or is there possibly also an airflow issue (seeing inlet and outlets are from the same lid)?

I have a Ninja AF which is fantastic (use it heavily for pork belly cracklings and roasting bones). It's great that I can use both AF and pressure cooker at the same time, though I wish sometimes the Ninja AF can do broiling (I see no way to turn off the fan).

I haven't observed any airflow issues. the lid is adequately ventilated from what I've observed. The main issue is the size and design of the basket/cooking area. Pressure/Slow cooking and Air Frying are somewhat opposite as cooking techniques. With Pressure and Slow Cooking you're relying on liquid and submersion to braise and cook: so a taller and narrow profile is suited to fill liquid to higher level to cover your protein. Air Frying requires a flatter/wider area of cooking to maximise surface area to crisp up your ingredients in a dry environment. A tall and narrow cooking area isn't suited for this. This instant pot is first and foremost a pressure/slow cooker and the airfryer is an afterthought. It does work, and it works well in certain circumstances with specific ingredients but I wouldn't call this a true substitute for an air fryer. Also side note, the air fryer lid is massive. I can't imagine a dedicated air fryer would take up much more room than just the lid for this.

      • which model ninja AF?

  • couldn't wait and got it for $20 more last month :(

    • Could have been worse. I was contemplating to buy this yesterday when it was at $270.
