Seems like an interesting move - either:
1) it's an accident (doubtful)
2) they're not making any more, now that they've sold as many of the remastered versions as they think they can

id Software released the source code for Doom in 1997 (four years after its original release), and that game is still being monetised to this day
EA wanted to milk it as much as they could, since they bought it from Westwood, somehow mobile phone games put the nails to the coffin with similar-style games for the new generation.
RIP good game developers like westwood and blizzard who still have people playing their games from 20years ago
LOL, great developers are still around but it's not profitable to make games for Babyboomers/GenX.. which is called generation gap :)
Not everyone wants to play another call of duty expansion or another world of Warcraft expansion or another battle royale or another game full of bugs or endless DLCs, which is about the majority of AAA game releases these days
I'm a millennial and the golden age of video gaming was the mid 1990s to the mid 2010s, ever since then its been extremely unsatisfying gaming

@boomramada: its a bit unfair to compare movies since the invention of netflix, not a great deal goes to the movies these days…..they seem to end up straight on netflix or prime or apple tv etc
Plenty of good music out there, but can be harder to find since the top charts and what is popular at festivals these days clog up the airwaves
i stillhave old pc dedicated to XP install to run Yuri's revenege. I pull it out once a or twice a year for a few rounds.
Yay, now I can store it with my Windows 95 source code. Now waiting for time machine :)
