Yeah but don't be like me and start downloading the entire library and maxing out both internet download limits and hard drive space on my laptop

You can download songs from CustomsForge.
      https://customsforge.com/index.php?/login/

      • Thank you sir

  • I tried to make this thing work and gave up

    • +4

It works well with an electric guitar and a Real Tone cable.
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/rocksmith-real-tone-guita…

      • I've tried to use this many times and find the latency makes it unsable, at least on PC. on the PS3 it wasn't an issue.

    • +1

Also works with a microphone and an awful lot of ASIO interfaces (see RS_ASIO on github).

      • I just tried a 6.5" to 3.5" cable from the guitar to the line in… no go even though it was reported on the internet to be viable. I may have tried a piece of software that was supposed to bridge the gap (maybe it was a .dll)

        • There is a no cable patch, but I never got that working, which is why I switched to an actual interface.

      • If you have an audio interface, why not just plug the guitar in?

        • Not sure if you are replying to me or Commodore64. In case it was me, I do use an interface. But it doesn't work with RS unless you use the RS_ASIO bridge software.

The microphone is for acoustic or if you don't have an interface or the RS cable.

          • @EthicsGradient: I think that’s what I tried but it didn’t really Pick it up well - or at all.

            • @Commodore64: Yeah - it's available, it works, but it was a late tack on. It also relies on a decent mic and a bit of competence with the guitar (I have neither, so went the interface route).

          • +1

@EthicsGradient: Thanks. Yeah I misread your comment. I thought you were saying to use a mic with your audio interface, not mic or audio interface.

I also love shredding the guitar solo on Symphony no 40!

  • the game is alot more expensive than this when you start loading up all the DLC song packs lol its like buying beat saber the game is 60 bucks + 300 bucks in dlcs song packs lol.

    • +7

This is PC lol. You just get custom songs for free

      • and 60 bucks on spent already on DLC song packs lol I am shocked there is not green day packs…..

      • True, but the DLC songs aren't available from customsforge, and the customsforge transcriptions are often iffy.

    • beat saber

If you don't mind a similar game, Synth Riders has full custom songs support (including online leaderboards), even on the quest version. I've got a huge library of high quality custom songs without paying for anything except the base game price.

      • yeah Beat saber on PC has been pretty much locked up to the point where its very hard to do mods now on the latest version of beat saber if I down graded the version then maybe I can mod it again.

Rocksmith 2014 Remastered is back by popular demand!

I also demand to take me back to 2014. When I was fit, had my hair, and was in a state that I would say is happy 🥹

  • Will this work with an acoustic guitar?

    • +2

If it has a pickup, yes, but its not great. Expect many missed/wrong notes recorded.
If not, I wouldn't buy a pickup to get it working with this, you'd be better off buying a dirt cheap electric guitar.

fyi guys if you want the cable for this game you can get it from jb hifi Rocksmith+ Real Tone Guitar Cable

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/rocksmith-real-tone-guita…

    • And for a question about who lost the USB connection bit of the cable in the previous deal post.

It sounds like this is what you need.

That's not the right connector. kungfuman posted the correct cable.

Rocksmith uses a real guitar. Rockband uses an xbox controller guitar.

        • easywallet wasnt referring to the full RT cable. The RT cable comes in two sections. The 1/4 inch jack to the guitar and the USB connector (breakaway cable).

He/she is just saying if you had the full RT cable and lost the breakaway part (which is a common issue back in the xbox 360 days when people lost their usb part of the cable), you can replace the breakaway cable.

    • +1

Also works(-ish) with a microphone and with lot of ASIO interfaces - see RS_ASIO on github.

  • For some strange reason, if your sound card / DAC is in 24bits 48000hz setting, the game doesnt play any sound or the game crashes. If you having audio issues, the fix is to lower the bit rate.

the one thing about this that is good is that its a real guitar playing none of that guitar hero crap lol,.

    • hey, I have no idea music - 8yo son getting basic guitar lesson - so this is 'proper' /helpful and not 'rope learning' music?
ie will it give him bad 'habits' or form.

      • +1

It will totally give you bad habits if you don’t have actual lessons or prioritise it over proper practice sessions.

It’s best combined with lessons (even online ones like JustinGuitar).

But when combined with a good knowledge of basic technique, it’s a fun and useful tool.

        • thanks good to know

        • remember guys its just a game not a real learning tool

  • +1

One thing to note - this is (a perfectly acceptable) cash grab by Ubisoft. All of the songs in the DLC library are aging out of the licensing agreement (typically 10 years). So expect the available DLC to decrease by about 3-5 tracks per week.

If you decide you want some of the DLC, head over to Riff Repeater to find out how old each set is and if anything is near the 10 year mark, grab that first.

  • Just an awful experience getting this running, even with an official real-tone cable.

Ubisoft support (In an e-mail conversation over three weeks) made me change a whole bunch of system and audio hardware settings until eventually telling me to just format my HDD and reinstall Windows— But only after trying to up-sell me to a RS+ subscription!

    • I'll be blunt here - RS+ is obviously a subscription model, but the note detection is that much better its just not funny.

I have a LPII with absolutely terrible intonation and its still fine. Could never get that thing to work properly in RS 2014.

    • The real tone cable really sucks.

It works out of the box, but like cannedhams says, RS2014 note detection is really not good, and and it gets worse with the realtone cable.

Things got much better for me when I got a proper guitar interface, but even then I had to learn how to intone my guitar properly to get the note detection to an acceptable level.

  • I gave up. I struggled with chords.

I get my wannabe-rockstar fix from Clone Hero and that's good enough for me.

  • I've had an absolute blast with this, using my bass and a bunch of custom DLC. Took a bit to get up and running with my audio interface, but it's been rock-solid since.

  • I could o ly play air guitar.

  • Isn't this the shite game?
