Nowhere near ATL but still a pretty good price for a SATA 4TB TLC SSD currently. Around $348~ if it's your first purchase from the Samsung store.

2TB 870 EVO(samsung.com) also available for $201.75 (~$192 if first purchase)

4TB 990 Pro(samsung.com) with Heatsink $441.75 (~$420 if first purchase)

Unsure if it's the same price on EDU and gov.

870 EVO SATA III 2.5 inch SSD 4TB on the EDU store is $415.65.

  • Just wondering wouldn't it better to buy nvme 4.0 something like this https://www.msy.com.au/product/silicon-power-4tb-us75-pcie-g…
I've been looking for 4tb as secondary drive to store stuff. If people can tell me if I should be buying SATA or nvme 4.0 drive as secondary drive, I would be appreciated for the advice.

    • If you have spare NVMe slot that support PCIe (consult your motherboard manual, some low-end motherboards only have SATA support for secondary slot), generally it's recommended to have NVMe for less cable manage (no SATA power and data cable) and space (no need to mount/screw-in drive, some cases even need the drive cage).
For general storage that rarely accessed (not constant video reading/recording) or game drive, NVMe drive is also faster and can support DirectStorage (though not many games support this, typically AAA PS5-port games).

    • If you have a spare NVMe M.2 slot, I would go with that.

If you don't have a spare NVMe M.2 slot, but you do have a spare PCIe x4 slot, and adapter is inexpensive to use NVMe - for example(umart.com.au).

Yes, it would be better to buy a NVME drive, only reason to buy a 2.5" now would be if you don't have a m2 slot or enclosure or the price is just too good and youus eit for storage. But I wouldn't buy a Silicon Power drive like the one you listed, spend a bit more for a quality drive. Budget drives tend to have higher failure rates.

Why are these a deal, it's 2025, we are living in the future, shouldn't we be buying 10TB NVME's for $200 now? What's with 2-4TB sizes?

  • how do i get this deal?
    something something woolworths…
