I heard they aren't that good without a subwoofer which is 1000k plus.

You heard correct. This is only good for those invested in the ecosystem.
It only got 7.4 for Mixed Usage: https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/sonos/arc
Add a sub and 2 satellies though: https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/sonos/arc-with-sub-o…
      At that point, I would rather get a Q990D for $1206: https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/hw-q990dxy-samsung-q-ser…

I have the q990d and I totally agree. For almost all normal users it's a fantastic option and just works. I'm also invested in the sonos ecosystem and have beam, playbase and symphonisk and whilst they are great for music and movies, the arc never sounded good to me esp without the sub. The q990d is a fantastic all rounder and self contained package.
Add the new app issues with Sonos and the q990d shines with no issues and just works.

    • Not $1k now. It’s discounted to $759 at TGG

I would never spend one million dollars on a sub

I agree- got this first without the sub and spent a year underwhelmed and wondering why I couldn't understand any dialogue.

Adding the sub was life changing.

      • +1

Even with the sub, Sonos Arc is tuned more for music and dialogue isn't very clear. I didn't enjoy and don't recommend for movie watching.

I agree with this. Arc suffers from constrained sound imo , so the dialogue isn't clear as much. Even the beam sounds a lot better in that department. Q990d with the centre channel bumped up and on adaptive mode just works without any tinkering. It's only downside is lack of refinement in music.

Waiting for the arc ultra to get to a reasonable price…

    • Depends what you think is reasonable I guess. The current prices seem so, but it’s taken nearly five years to get there.

I regret buying into the Sonos ecosystem. The app is terrible. Then I read the history of the company and its deliberate attempts to brick its older gear and horrible anti-consumer practices in general. Regrets. Go elsewhere.

    • I'd be pissed if that happened to me too, especially if it was installed throughout the entire home.

      Brand loyalty doesn't mean anything.

All 3 of my tvs have Sonos soundbars and they look and sound great, no problems at all. Yes the app is a bit crap but once you get the music up and going it is great, can play througout the whole house quite easily.
At these prices it is a steal for a tv soundbar that you can later add a sub woofer and some rears to if desired.

  • This vs the bose 900 for the same price at TGG?

  • Awesome deal, wow.

  • Sonos arc ultra standalone vs sonos arc + submini?

    • Beam gen2 plus submini would be my recommendation.

      • Have a beam gen 1 with the sub and 2x ones atm

        • I have a Beam Gen 1 and 2 Sonos ones too and I'm super tempted to get this.

But I think they are trying to sell this off because they have a new Arc Ultra coming out, so maybe the current Arc Ultra price will go down…

I would hate to buy this now, only for Arc Ultra price to drop in a few weeks/months

I'd rather buy the beam gen 2 at 539 and test that out, it's cheaper and far better sound especially dialogues. I have the beam gen1 and it's fantastic for small to medium rooms without a sub. It's small and discrete as well.

  • And yet people are still trying to sell these second hand on market place for a grand?!

    • +3

Up until recently they have sat at close to $1500 and hardly ever went on sale so probably based on that. Looks like that ship has sailed now!

    • Yeah calm down on this… pre-sale. People aren’t tracking sale prices real time when they put something up on Marketplace.

this is a great price. I bought mine 3 years ago for $1k
