Good price especially with applicances online price match, great delivery with them

    • Hi do you have a different delivery experience with TGG?

      • No issue with TGG, have had a dryer and a vacuum cleaner delivered from them and it was pretty good experience. Just that appliances online have really good shipping staff if you are buying a new appliance and removing an old, very smooth delivery. I used them for my TV (previous gen of this deal) and my fridge and they were great.

        • thanks Ben!

  • Had mine for about 4 months and can’t fault it. Looking forward to watching the AFL on it.

    • Sports look OK on it? Saw another comment saying it's no good for sports

      • +1

In sports mode, I had no issues watching the BBL

  • Great deal. Bought one for my mum earlier today at this price.

  • Would this be ok to use as a primary monitor for general work? It's purely just spreadsheets, teams, o365 type stuff.

Interested to consider as an option against something like this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/890700

This would be horrible as a primary monitor. I use a 27" monitor on PC (and I agree that is definitely on the small side), but I have the 55" TCL C745 as a tv. Sometimes I sit on the floor in front while playing ps5 and at less than 1.5m away it's too close. I can only imagine how bad a desk experience would be. Maybe the 42" OLEDs are a better fit -even a 50" would be better than this.

    • How wide is your desk?
      I have a 55” C5 for my gaming monitor and.. it’s too big ):
I wouldn’t go bigger than 42” for a desk monitor unless you have a desk wider than 700mm.

    • I’d also like to know, not for use as by a single person as it would be too big, but as a presentation monitor in an office.

I use this exact TV as a primary monitor and i love it , just turn down brightness a bit and sit back a bit . It did take a few days to get used to it . I did use 43 inch dedicated monitor prior to this . This TV deals with text perfectly being Chroma 444

    • +1

i'd be tempted going even bigger. 34" ultrawide was way too small. my current 42" c2 is also far too small. MOAR!

    • i have one already as a monitor and its fine. Have a deep desk and sit it back.
I just bought another for a monitor for 2nd PC.
VEry bright, very clear, and motion handling is excellent. don't listen to the guys who dont own one.

      • How deep is your desk?

Budget TV's just seem to hit a price point 5-10 years ago and that's it, nothing cheaper.

    • +4

I think TVs have improved significantly over the last 5 to 10, plus you need to consider inflation during that time.

In 1975 my mother bought a 14" B & W TV for $400. In 1981 I bought my first TV, a 26" Philips remote control colour TV for $1000. In 2001 I bought a 43' rear projection TV for $4,200. This will be the biggest & best TV I've ever owned, and it's only $800.

      • -5

and in 2017 I bought an android powered 55" from JB for $549

        • +2

The image quality won't be comparable - this isn't a bottom of the barrel model, not to mention tech has moved on.

          • -7

@snep: But not hugely, especially considering a budget tv is still not colour accurate and still generally has low nits, sure SOME monitors are good but TV's, in the budget range, have not changed a huge amount, especially one that's noticeable.
Were mini led back then, still are, when oled is budget it'll be a big shift.

I get it though, some people use 4K phones and swear night and day they can see the pixel density differences between standard res phones.

            • +3

@Darude Sandstorm: This TV was measured at 94% DCI-P3 coverage with a delta-e of 1.8. Peak brightness was 680 nit full field or 1215 nit (2% window). Your $549 budget TV from 2017 would not be anything close to that.

If you're happy with low end image quality that's fine, but some people like it better.

              • -6

@snep: and your eyesight has only improved to compensate :)

                • +4

@Darude Sandstorm: I eagerly await the point at which $500 TVs surpass the human eye's ability to discern an upgrade. But that time is not now.

    • +1

This is not a "budget tv", it just happens to be reasonable priced. Massive difference

  • how does this compare to ffalcon and a kogan tv?

    • +2

This has 120hz display, better user interface and boots smart apps much quicker from my experience (C745)

      • I'll be using a firestick so apps won't particularly matter just display difference is what I'm curious about

        • +1

Other thing to consider is amount of lighting zones behind the screen. This model appears to have some of the best lighting technology compared to other screens of the same value (before discount). So a Ffalcon that regularly costs 60% less would expect to be significantly worse in comparison. Watch some reviews and report back?

        • Much better due to full array mini led backlight.

        • I've bought two TCL's - after the first one, I swore that I'd never buy another one. But the day I went to buy some other cheap TV to replace the little LG one in my Kitchen that died after 15 years, it wasn't in stock, so TCL it was.

          Worst. Decision. Ever.

You can use a firestick if you want. I use a Shield. That won't stop it from taking forever to turn on. Oh, and sometimes it just won't turn on. Like, you push the button, the backlight comes on, and then it just stays like that with a black screen. Or, it turns on, and there's no sound. So you have to hard reboot the TV, which makes Android restart (3-4 minutes). By that point my toast has popped, the kettle's boiled and I've cleaned the kitchen.

My mate tells me that TCL have fixed all the issues with this one. Yeah, sure, you betcha. Don't believe it.

I'm keeping this tv to fuel my rage to make a bunch of bank and buy a small LG C4/C5 for my kitchen.

Appliances online say no stock in Victoria

  • Dam, I just got this from TGG for $785 yesterday but it was the display model. I wanted them to beat appliances central at $915 which I thought turned out better when they had none in stock and I could have the display for 785.

I wasn't too concerned with the ex demo as it was just going to be a bedroom tv but now I could have had a new one for the same price! Now I want a bigger discount

  • Does this support 4k 120HZ?

  • Is there a rating on rtings.com for this? - i cant seem to find any reference.

Was holding out for a samsung s90d but thought worth comparing at this price.

    • +1

No. Our Hisense and TCL TVs are different to Canada's (where RTINGS is located). Where will the TV be located? Mini LED for bright environment and OLED for dark.

      • +1

So not just a different number to a North American model?

Dark room. So guess OLED is way to go.

        • No. Don't believe any statement that says otherwise because it's simply incorrect. How do I know? I am personal friends with someone who worked at Hisense and is now with TCL.

OLED looks outstanding in a dark environment. I have both panel types in the house and each have pros and cons. One will never be better than the other. That's just fanboy talk.

    Absolute ripper of a tv
I have the c745 and for the money nothing really comes close

    • How is it for sports?

  • Damn, we went in to buy this last night and ended up getting the C855 65 inch for $1680.

    • That's a bigger and better TV at a pretty good price. RRP is $2995.

      • Yes, they've put them next to each other and we were like nah we want this one. Set us back 1596 bucks after discounted gift cards.

    • Who did you buy it from and did you use a price match to get the C855 price that low?

      • The website price match button was already showing 1771 so I haggled and bit and he said absolute minimum is 1680 and I took it

No delivery from Good Guys in SA. However, JB Hi-Fi are doing it for $795 and have a slightly lower delivery fee. Only found out as the person in chat on Appliances Online told me and was happy to price match them.

  • Would this be a better TV than the QLED? You get Samsung QLED around the same price on deals: Samsung 55" QLED

    • Google AI answered my question :)

Yes, QD-Mini LED is generally considered better than QLED because it offers significantly improved contrast and deeper blacks thanks to its smaller, more precisely controlled mini-LED backlight, while still retaining the vibrant colors provided by the quantum dot (QD) technology found in QLED displays; making it a better choice for viewing in dark environments or when high dynamic range (HDR) content is being watched.

I think that the room size would be the most relevant factor, rather than the age of your school.
