  Put it under an eave.

  Sounds counter intuitive, but direct sun kills the batteries in no time.

  Place it so it gets full sun at the winter solstice, which means it will be protected for summer sun.

  Will last heaps longer.

  The panel can be in the weather while the light is safely under an eave.

  I use a few of these inside the sheds (solar panel outside of course)

  Recommend sealing the body with NC Silicone (roof and gutter), otherwise they corrode pretty bad.
