Help Choose a Mattress

Hi guys,

I'm in early 20's and need help finding a mattress for my room.
My budget is around 500-800, but would like to spend less as possible.

Been looking at OzMattress there cheapest one (queens size) is going for about $800 free delivery. It's online store so cant test it out but searched around and they are pretty good. The mattress it self looks pretty cool.

One i tried at Bedshed store which is similar specs is a Dreamsense pocket spring double for $900 with 30%. I tested it out in store and it was pretty good but the price sorta bothers me.

Looked at Ikea for a pocket spring and this one is only $600!

So I'm going to test it out tomorrow but I searched around and people have bad experience with Ikea mattress and should be avoided. Can anyone reassure me this?

Anyways out of the three which would you choose? Also if you got any other recommendations.

Thanks for viewing

Regards
Czz

  • my gf got a 300 dollar one off ebay it comes vaccum sealed and its really really impressive mattress for the price man i will ask her and get the link for you if you like

  • am interested as I am in the same position.

    Mattress and Base or Ensemble?

  • they sell both

    here is the ebay seller

you can google some reviews on the aswell

  • WithIkea their returns policy is great. If you sign up for their membership (it is free), if you are not satisfied you are able return any product within one year. So if you want to buy and try, could be an option. Online prices are also very tempting.

  • I went to Greys Online you can pick up fantastic mattresses for really good prices. I bought a high end one worth $2500 for $800. They are latex ones and are used in hotels Here is a link http://www.graysonline.com/lot/0001-2059068/manchester/euro-…. There is a selection and you can get one for your budget. You can also bid on toppers, manchester. The thing to remember is not to go over your budget. Sometimes you can get caught up in the fever of winning. See what they are going for and how much they are worth. If you are patient the bargains are great. Oh latex mattresses come in a real small container and when you open the box the mattress goes to its full size. I bought one for a builder friend who had a bad back and he said it is incredible.

  • I have a Tempur & I love it…but they are really expensive most of the time.

That said, a few friends who've liked my mattress but can't afford Tempur prices, have picked up very decent memory foam Tempur knockoffs from various sources online for a fraction of the cost. One of these friends got their QS from OO for ~$350 shipped…I helped with the research on that one & the reviews were glowing, and my friends have added to the positive reviews on the model they purchased.

Now, getting to the point…I noticed that the current $10 shipping cap applies to several already discounted memory foam mattresses at OO as per this deal: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89484 which would net you a queen size for under three hundred bucks delivered!

  • You can go mad trying to pick the perfect mattress. There are so many specs, so many variables, so many opinions. I spent 3 months researching the subject, then finally, just before they came to take me away, I gave up and bought a cheap memory foam mattress on Ebay and put it on the floor- thus saving me from another big pain in the arse- the perfect base for your your perfect mattress. Well not entirely- I did buy a posture slat base, hated it, and gave it to the Salvos.

  • It also did my head in trying to choose a mattress. In the end I couldn't decide so just bought the cheapest foam mattress from Ikea (was around $200 for the queen) as a stopgap, and after 6 months been really happy with it (I like a firm bed) and have no need to buy another one. Even if it only lasts a couple of years I will buy another one the same

Ikea have a 30 day return on mattresses if you don't like it.

  • Best method for mattresses is just try them until you find one thats comfortable, everyone is different, cost shouldnt really come into consideration (within reason of course)

An incorrect matress can do damage to your back and mean you dont get a restful nights sleep.

That being said i got a king koil with a latex top which was around 750 from memory, and suited me well.

Also another point to note, what type of base you have will effect what the product will feel like at home, for example ensemble base, slat base or those springy bases.

  • I think it's important to spend the time and make sure you get the right mattress for you. After all, you spend 7-8 hrs a day on it and it defines your mood the next morning :).

My wife and I spent sometime looking around and concluded that the Latex mattress was the way to go, because it provided the support (as it moulds around your body), circulation (due to the pin holes in the mattress) and cleanliness (anti dust mites). Don't be fooled by the store prices, as it can seem dauntingly expensive, it actually is reasonably affordable. We went with the Royal Queen sleep Zaanta package: http://www.zaanta.com.au/category_s/1826.htm . This included the pillows, which you don't have to get if you don't want, you can just get the mattress.

All in all, we've been having great nights sleep. Best of luck!
