  • Will take me quite a while to use 1kg. Is there a good method for freezing beans to use at a later date?

vacuum seal then freeze. let it defrost in the vacuum bag then open

      • Is there anything wrong with putting frozen beans straight in the grinder?

        • +1

          Nope. Possibly better.

@buff correll: Yeah I've been doing this and it comes out great! Just need to make the grind slightly coarser cos they are "fresh" then slowly make it finer after a few days.
I was only worried about the grinder if the beans will be harder when frozen, but if not, can definitely recommend straight from the freezer.

        • The issue is less with the frozen beans going in for that particular cup made fresh than it is opening up a whole bunch of beans to have condensation set in and affect the beans you are not using right then and storing.

      • Do you need to use defrosted frozen beans quicker?

At the moment I half-fill my hopper and just put the clipped/sealed bag in the cupboard, but that can still take me 2 to 3 weeks to use up. Can I do the same with a batch of defrosted beans?

Most other things go soggy or sweaty or more mushy once out of the freezer after all …

I prefer Inglewood's coffee over lime blue. I had been using Inglewood a while and then tried lime blue. I didn't like the taste, and found very little to no crema with the lime blue.

    • Black, cuppa or mocha? Inglewood coffee is much better for milk blends and flavoured coffees of any sort. Lime Blue is better for black coffee. I personally don't buy Lime Blue anymore and mostly get Inglewood. Their Sugar Daddy was incredible (fathers day special but if I ever see it again I'm buying in bulk).

EDIT: I can also vouch for the Espresso Hero Box, it's bean great :D

  • I normally buy the Brazil single origin from lime blue for a milk coffee, anyone know how this compares?

Looks like they started charging $2 for interstate shipping, used to be free.

    • +7

Considering aus post are charging $1.50 (soon $1.70) to post an envelope, $2 for a 1kg bag of coffee seems abundantly reasonable.

Anyone with the Breville Barista Express and found the perfect settings for this blend? Ideally double shot

i think your mileage may vary, sunset blvd was my first time trying inglewood and it took me a while to dial in. I recall having to change the bur setting to grind finer than the factory bur setting as well compared to all the different types if blends when I was drinking AIRJO.

Haven't tried sunset blvd again, have yet to try roosevelt, their downtown has been my go to. super easy to dial, nice tasting and being a darker roast makes it easier to dial as I heard consumer espresso machines tend to struggle with lighter roast coffee

      Burr grind size 4
      Machine 4-5 grind size
Output usually 36-38mls at 24sec extract time with dosage 17.5g
May vary with machine. But this is what I use

I would recommend trying with burr 4 and grind 6 then work your way finer depending on extraction

  • Any decaf discounts coming up?

  • Inglewood does a 60% off storewide sale monthly…I usually wait for that and buy 2 kg of beans for free delivery and freeze them to keep fresh.

    • +1

Yeah Inglewood always seem to have a sale just before I run out. I suspect it is there business model to do the 50+% off every month or so.

I always get a 1kg bag for around $30 and happy with the beans everytime. Tried sunset , Roosevelt and downtown and like them all.

IMHO the best of the roasters that often pop in here . I also like airjo
