210

Anyone waiting to book accommodation for an upcoming trip, from 4pm to 10pm today there will be 15% cashback on Expedia hotels via Shopback.

Good time to lock it in. I was about to buy at the current 12% until my wife showed me an email and confirmed through the small ad on Shopback's frontpage.

Check the app for price comparisons. I had a property that was more than 10% lower on Expedia app VS shopback. You can also try some codes like SUMMER13 which when i did the maths was better than shopback 15% even with the 2% extra linked card bonus.

  • Can you stack with the amex cashback?

    • Negative. Amex + expedia uses a different URL

      • I have previously stacked both but maybe that was a different deal format.

So few of these hotel aggregator platforms offer honest discounts. As @yonkey said above, always do price comparisons. The discount amount doesn't matter if the reference price changes depending on which link you click on to get to the platform (Agoda is the most egregious offender, in my experience).

    • Which ones are honest?

      • no one. because everyone needs to make profit.
the honest one probably bankrupt in a year

      • Trip doesn't seem to jack up the prices after going through CR/SB, unlike Booking/Expedia

        • Trip.com 100% do, they are the worst of it. Looking at the booking I made no price jack at all with Expedia. I might be unique but didn’t think I was that special.

Bonus 2% with Westpac bonus cashback. I do find shopback to be the slowest with approving hotels, some even still on pending after a year…

Nice forgot about the 2% bonus, this make it perfect timing for my European trip!

Edit: Also going through and notice as shopback plus I get 15.5%, so far no price changes. This is legit. Thanks op!

Enjoy the trip! They had 15% last week too and I changed my Japan hotels last minute haha. I'm leaving tomorrow :P

        • The true ozbargin way! Nice work. Ours is not until later in the year but the hotel we wanted was a the price we wanted on Expedia… now it's even cheaper! Enjoy Japan, love it there!

  • i dont get with expedia at the checkout there are two options/buttons,

one: pay total now at the bottom it says you will not be charged until your stay.
two: pay when you stay at the bottom it says you will not be charged until your stay.

so i choose the option 1.
and i got charged full, right away. and no its not pre auth, already weeks the amount is still there and i need to pay off my cc balance now
    weird ????

    • I think it will only track the amount that you pay now. So good that you clicked Option1

      • Oh really we get zero cashback when using option 2 pay at destination?

    • Option one allows you to also add credit/coupons to the final price. They'll take your money straight away but if there's any changes, you can still cancel your reservation and they'll refund it all back on the original payment.

Option two doesn't allow you to use coupons/codes and as it states, charged once you arrive at your hotel.

      • Ok i was thinking they will take the money after full refund period ends
