Where's iPad Option to Disable Camera Access on Lock Screen?

Hi all, I'm pretty sure the ability to disable camera access under "allow access when locked" was there before on my ipad 9th gen, but not anymore?Could someone confirm this?

I find this extremely annoying, as the toddler in the house would keep using the camera to take tons of photos from locked screen, and used up the storage unnecessarily. I had to constantly delete the photos. Isn't it ridiculous for Apple to disable something so important? Or just their secret plan to make us buy more storage?

Have you tried googling this thread title and clicking the very first result https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GYR5piz7nA

The point I tried to make is Apple purposely remove camera option in the "allow access when locked" for whatever unknown reason.. It was there before

I did see the screen time option, but just thought it's stupid you had to do that for a setting that was there before. Not to mention have to turn off to use the camera again.

      • Are you thinking of this option? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfzo73_Z-qE

Like the comments note it removes the button on the lock screen, but you can swipe to enable the camera anyway. But it neatens up the lock screen at least and removes the temptation to use it, might stop a kid from opening it even though they could swipe to open the camera.

        • That's exactly what I don't want.. Swipe to open camera

          • @Lancerx: That's exactly what it looks like there isn't an option for, unless you disable the camera entirely.

            • @AustriaBargain:

unless you disable the camera entirely.

I want them to go one step further, remove rear camera on ipad. 😂

barely anybody uses it anyway. front camera is probably used for facetime/zoom sometimes but that's about it.

              • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Real estate agents use it every day. I had an eye test yesterday at OPSM and they had an app for iPad that measures frames on your face when buying new glasses.

                • @AustriaBargain: huh I didn't know ipad camera could do that. I thought that kind of stuff was iphone camera only. you know how you can measure stuff with the depth sensor.

                  • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Well they had this device they clip into the frames with measurement marks on it, so maybe it was just documenting the measurements on my face. They had to push the dummy lenses out before doing it.

                    • @AustriaBargain: yeah it's still cool that they can do that with the camera.

I just thought you needed an iphone, because there is a app where you can point it in 3D space and it can measure distances in your room (I don't think you can measure how tall a building is though because the sensor is too weak) it's not 100% accurate but accurate enough to be useful apparently.

                      • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Yeah the Measure app, I use it all the time. You can draw shapes. I used it to draw the footprint of the caravan I'm in now to make sure it would fit. Possibly OPSM wrote their own app, or the app was just a form and it was a standard photo she attached to the form. I should have asked but she was an old woman she probably didn't know how it all works.

lfmao not everything is a crazy conspiracy theory. You just don't know how to use more recent config options.

      Crazy parents, crazy children

    • no it's a UI problem.

I notice it in other spots too. like when you open up tab view in Safari, and you want to scroll up and down to browse and see all your tabs right?

sometimes it thinks your up or down swipe is just a tiny bit diagonal, so it does the swipe right on the tab to close that tab and it just goes flying off screen. it's annoying and I swear it got much worse with a major update. in like iOS 16 or something it would never ever happen.

    Post It note?

If you long-press the camera app (in the home screen), does it give you the option to "require touchid"? Does that also apply when invoking camera from the lock screen?

Where's the option to deny toddler access to iPad 🤔

tbf I'm not a toddler and I find it annoying sometimes too.

like depending on how diagonal you swipe, the screen makes a guess whether you want left to right or up or down. sometimes I'm trying to swipe up to unlock, and it opens the camera. and for some reason it doesn't want to let you get to the home screen from the camera, so you have to swipe up twice or swipe to the side to close camera first and then up to unlock.

first world problem but I would also like to have the setting to disable the swipe to camera completely because nobody uses cameras on iPad.
