It's been a while since I've shared a Fenvi WiFi deal and here's one on a USB WiFi adapter for those wanting to upgrade to WiFi 6E. If you have the AliExpress App, you can click through the link to get it for a significantly cheaper price using AliExpress Coins.

This one has a USB 3.0 5Gbps interface and it's using the Realtek RTL8832CU chipset with tri-band support for 2.4GHz (574Mbps), 5GHz (2400Mbps) and 6GHz (2400Mbps). The two antennas fold out and it's using the official drivers from Realtek.

In terms of OS compatibility it works fine with Windows 10 & 11, however Win11 is required for 6GHz band support since it's not supported in Win10. Since it's using a Realtek chipset there's no official Linux support. Instead you'll have to try your luck with GitHub repositories.(github.com)

  • There is one for US6.54… looks to be identical?
    Are these any good?

Are you sure it's US$6.49 for AX5400? AliExpress is like eBay in that a seller can have multiple products on the listing and it'll show the price of the cheapest product. You'll want to check the "Color" on the listing.

These are certainly fine for having WiFi on the cheap. Certainly cheaper than buying big brand locally for the same chipset.

  • Thumbnail reminds me of a car yard hands in the air balloon person thingy. (Long weekend, maybe I'm just a bit delirious).

  • this or a PCI slot ones with bigger antenna?

    • PCI if you have a slot and one device to use it with.

USB, provided you don't have any issues with your usb ports. I used to go for the PCI cards, but they are basically the same thing. At least with USB you can use an extension cable (you'll need a superspeed extension cable to get the full bandwidth) and put it in the right spot

Couldn't get that price via the app unfortunately. Only $0.25 off in coins and $1.00 in coupons/codes = US$12.30

    • It shows up as AU$14.52 for me, with coins.

    • How many coins do you have?

      • Sitting on about 700, so shouldn't have been due to shortage. Dunno what it was.

  • These things take a minute to connect to wifi after Windows PC loads. Bought 3 of them. Good speeds and reliability though. The wifi 6 version is fine. Have a wifi 7 router. Or am I doing something wrong?

    Nice back door

Realtek is Taiwanese. Would you prefer another country that makes wireless chipsets? Perhaps China?

  • A general question: Why is the price lower in the app than from a web browser?

    • +3

AliExpress Coins are the reward points earned by making purchases, checking in daily etc. Through the Coin section of the app you can get big discounts on most products using them.

  • what does '?sourceType=620' do?

I know 561 does the bundle price

    • +1

It applies the Coins super discount. In the app if you go to Account and Coins you'll see how a heap of products have "extra 40% off" and similar. 620 turns it into one of these if they're eligible.

  • Anyone can recommend a good USB wifi to use, and good price with out of Linux kernel support? (on openwrt)
    Wifi 6/7 not required.

    • I don't think you'll find many recent devices with out-of-box support to run ON an OpenWrt device as the firmware to run them is typically a separate package that you'll need to install via opkg. (Or apk, if you're on a newer image. Yes, they've changed package managers to alpine's.)

    • There's a big page that documents wifi dongles that are known to work w Linux, check it out

  • What's everyone's preferred driver for this guy?

Windows 10? Doesn't seem to auto install.
