Baccarat Damashiro Kire 9 Piece Knife Block - $189.99 (RRP $1,349.99) Delivered @ House via Catch

One thing that annoys me about knives from house and specifically Baccarat is that they claim they are Damascus… and add the word Inspired.
However, the deal is reasonable even though the retail price is probably exaggerated.

• Baccarat® Damashiro Kire 9 Piece Knife Block includes 1 x 20cm Chefs Knife, 1 x 20cm Bread Knife, 1 x 17cm Santoku Knife, 1 x 15cm Mini Chefs Knife, 1 x 14cm Santoku Knife, 1 x 12.5cm Santoku Knife, 1 x 12cm Utility Knife, 1 x 9cm Paring Knife, 1 x Knife Block

Fake Japanese knives, fake RRP. Absolute crap.

    • +1

These are really really cheap chinese knives. I had one, the steel is soft, doesnt hold edge, constant sharpening.

  • +2

I'd like to meet the person who actually pays RRP for this stuff.

  • +5

The audacity these retailers to advertise a ridiculous RRP but have a constant all year around sale for $200.
Reminds me of Zohan movie… the scam artists having a business called “going out of business” 😂

  • +6

Honest question, why are they allowed to do fake RRPs like this? Doesn't this go against some ACCC thing.

    • +2

Good question but probably baby similar to rug situation

      • +3

        I meant baby

        • +2

          yes we got that

    • The rule is that as long as there is some small period where you are selling it at full RRP beforehand then you can have whatever discount you want. Worked at Victoria's Basement whose entire business model is basically this. Sometimes a new product would come in and it would have to sit on the floor at full insane RRP for a few weeks until it came down to it's normal price.

Same with Peter’s of Kensington as well. Their eBay store has most items at a discounted price

Ngl these are worth about $100

    Theyre trash, look cool though

Get a global, furi or a japanese brand.

    • +3

      furi is chinese made

      • But at least they're made from a metal of decent hardness

  • +2

I saw this at house just yesterday… Normal price.

    Same price elsewhere. Inflated rrp

They are more Australian than Japanese.

Steven Lew probably paid $1,349.99 at launch as kitchen display?

    Is House closing down… again?

  • $1349 LOL

These are made from 420J2 stainless steel, one of the lowest-tier materials for knives.

  • +2

    Inflated RRP

Mods, may I suggest that we do not allow the listing of RRP in bargain posts? We're enabling the bullshit marketing tactics of these dodgy retailers.

House is one of the most egregious offenders.

The ACCC need to tighten their rules. It's too easily sidestepped by briefly advertising the product at a ridiculous RRP.
