Avoid if you don't have much spare time, it'll consume your life for a while.

Can confirm, I stay up to 3am doing this…

      • +3

I stayed up to 6am, I didn’t even know it was 6am until I heard the birds started chirping outside. I’m so ashamed 🙈

      balatro sales ↑

      global productivity ↓

    • eh. played for a few hours and got bored.

  • +4

You either cash out or crash out.

  • +9

Fun game but prefer it on mobile

    • +2

You'll need +1 hand size to hold the power bank that runs Perkeo and Showman.

      • +2

I just use a long cable and leave my 36ah power station on the floor.

    • +3

I play this exclusively on mobile but it really tests my eyesite. I wish they implement some way to scale the card text.

      • +2

That's what stops me from trying it on android. I don't usually like mobile games, but Balatro could be a nice time killer to have in your pocket if they'd scaled the fonts up a bit. It doesn't look like they have though.

I tried playing KotOR yesterday and it was ridiculous playing it on a little 6.8" phone screen.

      • +1

It looks amazing on my Lenovo Y700 tablet

  • +9

This game stole my life :( and I redownloaded on my phone and it’s stealing my life again :(

  • +16

If you already have Slay the Spire, buying via the "bundle" is even cheaper at $16.78 :)

    • +9

And if you don't have Slay the Spire you should consider the bundle anyway because it's fantastic.

      • I'm playing StS on Android. Thinking about getting Balatro on the same platform because getting it on Steam would mean starting StS from scratch again.

    • Cheers for that!

  • +9

This game is crack, don't do it.

  • +8

was fun first couple of runs but once you figure out the meta jokers, gets repetitive.

    • +1

Playing the different decks and stakes is fun but need the RNG on your side at times. I'm trying to complete the last three challenges.

      • The joker-less challenge was the hardest for me.

        • +1

I'm not looking forward to that one. Just did the 1 hand only challenge and trying the 3 joker only deck.

    • +2

Sounds like you need to try out some mods then.

    • +2

Really? I'm 60 hours in and it's not repetitive, you can't really get meta jokers easily its all RNG in the shop. Especially gold stake.

      • +1

Yeh you can't every run but once you know what jokers are meta, and you don't get many of them, you kno it's a bricked run so u restart and if u don't, you know your wasting time cuz u won't clear the run.

  • +3

this is so good on mobile

  • +1

    Great game

  • +4

I got it for $15 on Android and used google rewards credit. Now I can play all the time.

    • +1

you dont have a problem with small text?

      • +2

Nope. My vision is not too terrible, -0.25 and -1.25.

  • +5

its included with apple one memberships for those who happen to have it.
    dangerous stuff.
was up till 2.30am this morning playing it.
    stupid orange stake.

  • +1

Was $14.36 on the PS store a couple weeks ago for anyone on PS (PS4 and PS5 cross-buy), not commonly on sale though

Lost a looot of sleep the first week I owned this. I should have no time for games but have managed to accumulate a ridiculous number of hours according to the PS app..

  • +1

    RNG me all day everyday

  • +2

Should be classed as a narcotic. Life ruiner.

  • +1

Black deck gold stake was a bitch

  • +4

THIS GAME HAS RUINED MY MARRIAGE

    anyways

    10/10

  • +1

    Avoid this at all cost!

Otherwise your daily productivity will go to the bin.

    10/10 would buy again.

  • +2

    nope!

    • -2

      That's what she said.

    • What are you, the wheel of fortune?

I played one of the challenges where you get two Oops all 6's jokers and the glass deck, guaranteed broken cards and wheel of fortune activation.

  • +1

This and Factorio cannot be allowed to gain more DLC, it will CONSUME YOUR LIFE

    • +1

I legit had to uninstall factorio…

      • +1

We all do things in the heat of passion Jimbo

  • +1

The whole story of the games development is great too. Especially how the artist behind the music was compensated.

  • +1

Is there a lot more to the original, than what was in Dave the Diver (as 'Jimbo's Game')?

  • +1

For those who has the Humble Bundle Choice membership, it's cheaper to get it from the Humble Bundle store instead at AU$17.56

steamdeck or android version (S24U, and Galaxy Tab S9) which platform is better to get it on?

    • +3

My vote is Android, purely because you can play it anywhere anytime as you’re almost guaranteed to always have phone on you or very near.

  • What is this game similar to, besides slay the spire?

    • +2

Not really. The closest is poker.

      • Yup, Poker with steroids.

  • +1

Buy it on android and let it consume every work break instead.

  • +1

This was easily the best indie game of 2024. Super addictive. A must buy!

  • +1

addictive game. i made the mistake of buying the android version… which means i always have it on me.

  • As an alternative viewpoint; I found Balatro gameplay boring, graphically uninspiring and the background music I turned off nearly straight away. I need to add the caveat that I have only played Balatro on Apple iPadOS - 11" iPad Pros. I haven't played the PC version but from what I can see it is not any different, except possibly your screen size.

I love playing Poker and spend a considerable amount of time playing online Poker. With all the amazing reviews of this game, I thought it would be perfect for me. But no.

There are several things that left me feeling unsatisfied:

    • Screen layout during gameplay - the most important information, your cards, take up a very small part of the screen (maybe < 15%). This combined with the pixel art style, can make it hard to quickly distinguish your cards at a glance. I am sure the small cards are deliberate as they wouldn't scale up in size well due to the pixel art - they'd look uglier at twice the size.
    • Unsatisfying gameplay - no reward for play, you beat the hardest 'blind' and it just gets harder by setting a higher pass score for each subsequent level. Any 'money' earned while playing a game is lost when you lose. There is no carry over of winnings between games.
    • The wildcard system just didn't gel with me. Multiple jokers that all perfrom different things, occult cards, etc. Didn't enhance the standard Poker gameplay in a way I found enjoyable.

I recognise I must be in the minority based on the cult following the game has achieved. However, a heads up that this won't instantly engage everyone. Even Monopoly Poker is more engaging than this to me.

P.S. it is nearly $4 cheaper on the Apple app store than this price.
