SIM + Device Plan - Taking Advantage of $80/month Employer Reimbursement

My new employer reimburses up to $80/month for phone plans.

I already have a new phone, and so don’t need one. Of course, $80/month is far more than I would want to spend on a sim plan.

I was thinking this may be an opportunity to get a new device via a 12 month plan deal - perhaps a laptop or a tablet. Ideally Apple, but that may not be achievable (?)

Any suggestions?

$79.55/month for an iPad Air 11-inch (M2) 256Gb with 20Gb/data at Vodafone for 24 months. Can't really swing it in 12 months for Apple, but you could for a Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G for $64.08.

Look for a plan that has a sign up bonus you can pocket. JB HiFi used to give you gift card when signing up to an overpriced plan, otherwise check cashrewards.

JB-Hifi have a $1200 gift card every now and then on the $99pm plan. Would end up costing the OP only $19pm out of pocket (which is pretty reasonable for most people), and getting a free $1200 gift card to boot.

Could you get a new phone and plan in your name and sell/rent it via Ozb classifieds?

  • i would read the fine print, and see if you can actually sign up an ipad or whatever. Also, don't forget to factor in job security as you don't want to be paying off the contract if you get fired from your job

    • 2nd this. Singtel Optus has this benefit, I'd reckon replacing home internet the best option, for reason above

  • I had the exact same limit…

What I got is get $1000 off any iPhone device, if sign up for 24 months $69 plan from Vodafone…
