  • Shame pretty much no one outside of Nepal can buy this…

  • Thanks, missed out last week so well pleased to see it pop up again.

King Size $179. Missed out on the deal.

  • Can anyone who got one of these tell me their thoughts? Does it have an individual zone for heating the feet? Looking at something for my elderly Mum, so thank you in advance for any added info I can get.

    • I've never heard of an electric blanket with feet zones. I usually buy the cheapest you can find though.

I bought a king size one last year and found it to be extremely uncomfortable.

The fleece itself is nice enough and it heats well, the problem is that the hard plastic power cable connections are big and bulky and located in the worst possible place. They dig into your back/shoulders and make it very hard to get comfy (which isn't ideal for a bed).

Even though I paid close to full price for the Tontine, it was so uncomfortable that I've already bought a replacement blanket (different brand) for this winter.

Also, it doesn't have separately controllable feet zones, I assume it's just advertising the fact that the heating elements run the length of the blanket including down to your feet.

My cat loves laying on those plastic connector things.

      • +3

I found a workaround for the hard plastic cable connections - simply mount the blanket upside down on the bed! Then they're down near your knees.
Of course it's slightly harder to reach the controllers if you need to adjust the temp, but my usual method is just to heat up the bed before I get in rather than leaving it on overnight, so it works ok.

I used to have an electric blanket that could be set for the lower half only. I think it was Kambrook. It has a feature where you could disconnect the electric cables so that it could be washed in a machine. Unfortunately, this is where it developed a fault on two separate occasions. The first time, they replaced the cable, but the next, it was out of warranty. The Tontine seems to be pretty basic, with just 3 heat settings. My current one has 10.

The classic is also on sale but has a lower RRP so less of a dopamine rush.

Don’t use electric blankets but bought one anyway (great price!).

The classic King is also $24.99 delivered. Doesn't have the wool outer layer and multi zone temperature. Does still have "dual controller" and "extended feet zone" so that implies you get two temperatures.

    • +2

Dual controller is just for the left and right side of the bed. No separately controllable feet zones.

      • +1

Thats what I meant to say, thanks for clarifying.

      • +3

just for the left and right side

just turn it 90 degrees. BAM! feet zone

Only available for OnePass members, otherwise they are $179 for King size.

My orders keep getting cancelled. I keep getting this email after placing an order: "We regret to inform you that your recent purchase from Catch.com.au did not meet our payment verification standards, resulting in your order being cancelled."

Anybody has any idea why that is? I have used three different payment methods to no avail.

      quoted from someone else:

This has happened to me many times on catch recently. I contacted them about it and was told it’s their system security etc.
I’m reasonably certain it’s when an item has sold out but the site shows it as still in stock. If you place an order for multiple items, it’ll still trigger if 1 of the items isn’t available. This is just a guess based on receiving this email many times.
      Very frustrating.

  • Doesn’t seem to be a timer for this?

Bought the Sherpa king size last week for $35 - great deal OzB. Picking up some of the comments above…
Yes it's a simple 3 heat model, exactly why we bought it. Our previous 10 heat turn off after X hours model was way too complex to alter in the dark when half asleep, plus the separate on/off slide switch needed two (preferably young strong) hands to move.
Since we mostly just use the blanket to preheat and occasionally put it on low later on a really cold night, this suits is much better. I admit a timer can sometimes be useful, but not at the expense of constantly getting the settings wrong and needing your glasses in the middle of the night to read the darn thing.
it has a separate control on each side, that’s all the "zones" mean. I’ve never missed having a separate zone for feet and few blankets do, however if you need it this one’s not for you.
The cable connection point is well down from the top of the blanket but that’s because the heating elements don’t extend under your pillow, like every other EB I’ve ever owned. Importantly they are pretty close to the SIDE edge of the blanket. While they are slightly thicker than some, unless you are in the habit of lying on the very edge of the bed I can’t see how this could be a problem to your shoulder. I’m wondering if the other OzBargainer actually got a slightly different model to the current one. Or on a single bed version perhaps this would be more of an issue.
it’s early days yet but so far we are very satisfied with this bargain purchase - another triumph for OzB 👌

    • Crikey, you using an electric blanket in summer?

      • +1

you can leave them on your mattress all year around but just don't turn them on in Summer ;)

  • Pretty disappointed as not a blanket, but an underblanket as they call it. I would say its more of a mattress pad.
I wanted something to go over me like a blanket. This thing is fitted on to a mattress and then you still need a blanket to cover yourself.

    • +2

It's an electric blanket, Iike every other EB I've ever owned. It has a padded layer on top so you don't feel the heating elements.

    • +2

You need to look for a a "Heated Blanket Throw" as an electric blanket always goes on a mattress.
