I haven't heard a single good thing about these gyms

    • +14

It attracts a very high amount of D heads, ruining the parking for locals at every location.

      • +1

that's true though, Bunnings next to it was very pissed and make a warning statement at SA Windsor Garden.

        • +5

I drive past port melbourne everyday and there is always multiple cars parked in the no standing at all times of the day, making it hard for trucks to take the corner.

        • +2

I used to go to that gym and parking was the worst. I remember a lot of people would park at the Bunnings a walk over. What did Bunnings say?

          • +17

@fvn: That’s they will beat it by 5%

          • @fvn: They put up a warning statement, but no one cares about it. I see a lot of people just parking and crossing the road. Probably, they can't do anything about it—very unfortunate for genuine Bunnings customers.

            • +1

@Kas: I believe at caroline spings bunnings is next to one, had to put in a gate/parking operator

      • +5

To be fair, every other gym attracts (profanity) who can't park too. Derrimut is best avoided because they could shut down any shop without notice, like they did in qld

        • +3

Just have to look at the owner, dont want to support that sort of flop either.

    • +1

I go for their group classes, and it's alright.

    • +22

For the price you won't find a better gym … Even for double the price.

Sure it attracts lots of undesirables… But you just go to the gym to work on yourself, ignore the others.

      • +11

This, I go to the gym, do my workout, come home. Avoiding the peak times usually means it’s pretty empty. Equipment is always clean and working.

For $200, I do the odd lunch break, Sunday arvos and such and get my moneys worth. I’m not trying for gains, just to live past 70.

    • You're in the wrong circle

  • +1

Shockingly loud music. I have been to half a dozen different gym providers and for whatever reason, Derrimut plays music absurdly loud. My noise cancelling, in-ear, earphones aren't enough.

Treadmills are constantly out of order.

This is mostly based on my local derrimut gym though….which is also becoming a little over-crowded. Nothing terrible. But 50% of the time, your equipment is in use.

Apart from that no complaints for the price.

    • Was thinking about joining up as covid ended my gym days. Are there no working treadmills? Or ellipticals?

      • +1

Treadmills only. 3 of the 7 are out of order. Has been for months.

It could very well be specific to my local gym though. I recall going to a different site a few years back and they had a dozen that were fine from memory.

        • Not the Windsor Gardens one?

    • +5

Time to return the temu earphones cuzz.

I drill holes in concrete all day with my Sony's and can still hear my Taylor swift toxic songs clearly.

      • +4

You're going to damage your hearing.

        • +6

Ain't nothing getting between me and Taylor

          • @Lingnoi: I heard she doesn't even write her own songs.

            Try the Monkees.

  • +16

please take your whining to another gym and pay 5 times as more. ffs

    • Im looking at renewing my membership here in Darwin and cant find much for less then $1000 a year.
Thinking of going back to uni to join the uni gym at $400 a year.

  • +1

Biggest gym opening in Elizabeth SA gains bro

  • +2

Good deal. My wife has been extending 12mths at a time when the previous deals came out. Usually there's a bs admin fee attached to it.

Not sure how many locations do the reformer pilates classes but she makes her membership fee up in savings pretty quickly when attending those classes a few times a week. Have to book a few days in advance when the booking window opens up overnight though.

  • -5

Can someone recommend a better gym.

Post gym and price for comparison.

Time to shut the haters up.

  • -2

Haters can’t get pass paying above $199 elsewhere lol

  • What happens after the 12 months is over?

    • +1

      In terms of…..?

    • +1

you go up to 24 bucks a fortnight or something or rather until you cancel, if youre paying by direct debit

      • +2

From my experience the membership expires at the end of the 12 month term. It does not revert to a monthly fee. The 12 month fee is a one off / non-direct debit.

    • It will be the year of Christ our lord 2026. 🙏

  • +1

Can this be claimed on health insurance?

    • +1

Yes it can, I’ve claimed the full amount twice already, my membership runs out Feb 2027

      • What category does it come under with ahm?

    • Entirely dependent on your insurance

      • Correct . I’m with AHM

        • Which cover do you have ?

          • @brotos: hospital & extras - lite flexi bronze plus

  • just so people know if you 'already' have a 12-mo top up from previous deals they wont let you add 'another year' on to it

or so i was told today

    • Just sign up as somebody new.

      • +3

        Mr Snrub

      • i think perhaps you mis-understood or i poor worded my comment - i got about 18 months left of membership i couldnt add another 12mo to it

        • Fair enough. Assumed you just had a couple months left.

  • -2

Lol at that price I’m assuming they’re looking to rob you and close the business soon.

    • +2

They've been doing these deals forever, they just oversell access to incredibly crowded run down gyms. No tricks, you just get what you pay for.

      • -3

And you have noobs who’d jump on the cheap deal and whine their ass off . Can’t win

  • +2

I purchased a year membership and tbh, I rarely go there, because I got crook for a few good months during winter, and then busy with work and kids and games… so they have benefited with my "donation"… probably will pass and watch out my diet…

    • +10

This right here is how they make their money lol

  • +1

I go to the one in Coolaroo Vic. For $199 I can't complain at all. Panatta gym equipment is amazing. Sauna and a basketball court. Bring some earbuds to block the speaker sound out and you're good to go.

    • +1

$199 for sauna alone is pretty decent

  • +4

Signed up last year for the same deal, went twice then never again. Way too crowded, can't find a parking spot, bathroom not clean enough. Oh well, you get what you paid for, never again.

    • +8

Be honest with yourself… You probably wouldn't have gone more than 2 times even if you went to a better gym

      • +8

Wrong, I am going to my current one 2-3 times a week. I was with Goodlife before trying this brand, now I am with a gym close to home and run by the council. Yes, more than $199 a year, but they offer more classes, better facilities and environment. $199 might seem very cheap and attractive, but I didn't use the gym as much, so it ended up being costly. My current one is way more economical in the long term. My suggestion is to visit the gym you'd like to attend before you buy the membership. You can decide later.

    • Park 500m away and you get a free warm up and cool down!

  • +2

I find that I can't deal with big gyms anymore, purely cause they're further away. Anytime fitness is only double the price for 8 minutes closer each way.

I rather save the time than to save the money, cause I'll get super lazy to go to gym if it's far.

  • Bought their yearly subscription last time it was on this site and soon after the Qld store closed lol

    • +1

And you got your money back, used another one of their stores or did they steal your money?

    • That's so frustrating lol!
Do you know of any comparable QLD gyms with similar offers?

  • +1

Yes the gyms are ridiculously busy during peak times. Not worth going then even. However their size means they have the best and most varied equipment.

I have a membership with a gym near my house which is not busy at all for regular use and a membership at derrimut which I use when I can go during off peak times to take advantage of the equipment that no where else has.

    For $200 it's a no brainer.

  • +1

I did a visit to Caroline Springs a couple months ago, I spent more time looking for dumbbells and cable attachments than I did working out lmao.
I must admit, they have pretty much every machine you can think of, so I loved the variety of machines. They also had a female only section which I think would be good for new coming females who aren't comfortable working out in front of males. If there was one closer I'd probably sign up because the cost is a quarter of my Anytime Fitness membership.

  • +2

It's a great price, but they oversell memberships which means it's often very busy.

A simple google search brings up various critical media articles about their conduct. And looking at the other comments above, it's not an isolated issue.

Remember: You get what you pay for.

    • +2

“Oversell membership”. As if any other gym would never do this either.

      • +4

It's actually every gyms business model. They rely on people not going in regularly. If everyone was, there would be no space to move

        • Just like priority lounge membership 😂

  • +2

i've seen vids of these gyms on tiktok and it looks like literal hell. please pay a bit extra and you won't need to queue up for a machine surrounded by flops

    • +2

What gym are you going to that you're only paying a bit extra? I don't know of any other gyms even close to this price with their variety of equipment and classes.

  • I go at 12am and have the place free to myself (maybe a couple of others) so it works. Or do a 10/11am and it's still okay. They're drastically cheaper than other gym chains around. Only complaint is the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting in my local.

  • +2

I've been a member since July last year, frequently going to their Oakleigh gym on weekdays arvo at 2PM and the Derrimutt on the weekend mornings. I do understand some concerns expressed on the previous comments but everyone needs to chill with the hates. Attracting wrong crowds, etc… I've read significant hate comments Everytime this gym got a new post but many comments can be easily ignored by the fact that I have never had big issues in using the equipments that I want to use, the facilities are good in general. The toilet uncleanliness are mostly due to the users, they're doing their designated clean up time slots. Most of the stuffs are fine, the regulars that I meet on my time slot give me a sense of encouragement.

Music can be loud, so what? You can always go to the staff to turn it down a bit. Work on yourself, reach your goal, be mindful, and make the most of your money's worth.

Stop whinging, especially if you are not using their facilities or not benefiting from being a member. Set your goal, find our own preferred gym, be better, not bitter. Cheers

  • I joined this gym for 2 years before going to another local gym recently. Do yourself and your body a favour and find a better place. Yes, I pay double the price, but I get better hygiene (wipes and clean equipment), well maintained, good community members, wifi, and better vibes overall.
It is still a great option if you can’t afford a better one.

  • Can only speak for Oakleigh East for $199 no brainer , been there for over 6 months Awesome gym, peak times parking would be a nightmare but I don.t do peak, Machines so much variety (probably helps to known your machine) Machines that are broken occasionally see one or two but also see alot of technicians coming out… They can't keep up with the paper towels again I put it down to volume of people going through…This gym is massive….,Other than that very happy was paying $1200 a year at Danny Frawley…….
