It's been a while since an M.2 2230 sized SSD has been shared for the handhelds like the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally and similar, so here's one in the capacity of 2TB that's perfect for upgrading the storage.

If you use the AliExpress app and have AliExpress Coins, you can get a significantly lower price through the link in this deal than what the desktop or mobile site offers.

This works with other devices that only accept 2230 sized SSDs including Surface Pro 9, X, Surface Laptop 3, 4, Laptop Go and more. Since this is a Gen4 SSD you shouldn't use it with the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Pro 7+ due to stability issues. Both of these have no issues with Gen3 SSDs.

This one offers a sequential read up to 5150 MB/s, sequential write up to 4850 MB/s and uses Toshiba BiCS5 112l or SanDisk TLC flash. Unfortunately 2230 sized SSDs don't have DRAM cache, but this one uses pSLC cache and HMB to make up for it so it's perfectly fine for gaming. Especially when a lot of other similar SSDs are QLC.

  • Apply the coupon AFAU20 or AUFF12

AU$ based on current Mastercard rate and GST inclusive.

For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

  • Are there any tiny external cases for these? If so, do they need external power or could I plug it into my phone (for example)?

    • Just search 2230 case on Ali, plenty of usb c enclosures

  • Selling mine, 1TB, in Sydney for $50

I instead use a SD card in my steam deck and never used it

  • Will there ever be 4TB 2230's?

    • A single sided 4TB 2230 SSD simply isn't possible yet due to there not being enough room. Having the NAND flash memory double sided would probably work but then it would be too thick to fit in the Stream deck. Not to mention the massive increase in heat it would generate.

  • Any 1 TB offers?

Same listing will work with AFAU13 or AUFF08

  • Expired? I just get an error saying the item can't be shipped to the selected region

      Yeah looks like it :(

      • any alternatives? was really keen to buy :(

Damn that will teach me to procrastinate - thanks for confirming

        • See above.

        • I know right. Kicking myself for not jumping on it when it was $135.
