The ex's staffy nearly passed due to Fanconi syndrome 6 to 7 years ago after being fed Chicken Jerky which was later found to be produced in China.
Same dog has never had any issue with treats sourced from Australian stock - ie locally produced from local livestock.

      Plenty of documentation about it;
This report involve more than 6,200 dogs, 26 cats, three people, and include more than 1,140 canine deaths.
Transient renal Fanconi syndrome in a Chihuahua exposed to Chinese chicken jerky treats

Total cost of treatment was in excess of $4k and ultimately took the University of Sydney to finally diagnose it back in 2018.
The staffy lost weight, refused to eat, was lethargic, often vomiting. Loved the treats though, rarely passed one up - which didn't help.
I don't believe there has been conclusive attribution as to what causes it or why treats from Chinese suppliers have a higher tendency to induce the condition.

      • My tears and heart are with you….

That's why I'm always very careful with food for my furry boy.

i can get an overcooked chook at woolies for half that.

but seriously chook breasts are $10-11/kg

    • +1

Buy your $10 chook breasts, dehydrate them, and see how many kilos of fresh chook goes into making 1kg of dried chook.

      • -1

why would dehydrate them? give them the fresh stuff!

        • don't like carrying raw chicken around in my pockets but you do you boo.

      • You lose about 40% using a dehydrator.

  • won't deliver to me and it's $49 unless it cheaper on checkout which I cant

    • if you have one pass?

      • i have one pass. But im regional queensland. weird though because i have got the chicken disc off them before.

  • $ 57.70 now

  • I wonder if highly processed foods are as bad for pets as they are for humans.
