I want to buy something quite expensive and fragile and get it to melb safely. I am thinking of flying up to Sydney, and do a $1 day car hire back to melb.
Has anyone tried this, book a car. $1-5 day, $150 fuel allowance, from city to city.
Any thoughts? No catches? Issues?

I have done it several times from Melb and Brisbane as well as Cairns.
Look on standbycars.com for the latest lists.
you can either call them and pay the $50 fee or if they are from Braybrook, VIC or Mascot, Sydney they are probably Britz, or call them directly and save the fee.
I would say stick to them as they are easy to get to from public transport.
Make sure you get the petrol. $150 should cover it.
I never had any problems so never really found any catches. You may pay more for decrease in excess. You can use the showers and toilet but you need to clean and empty them.

i think there is normally a fee if you dont return to original depot regardless.
