Decent ones no cheaper than $30.That;s lower limit. Backyard hobby bred ones all over the place,price wise, but you risk some pretty shitty diseases (Mareks, CRD etc) if the breeder is not switched on. Way better off getting vaccinated poultry.Or retiring commercial hens, which are usually about 18 MO,max. With bird flu outbreaks ex commercial purchasing might be shut down .
If you get them from a hobbyist go for ppl who are members of a poultry club and who have a good reputation among other breeders.

Must be a panic pricing to compensate for the potential price error. $49 is way too expensive for 5kg of feed.

Our first chook, Florence, had to get put down due to an illness. Hardest thing I've ever had to do! Luckily I was able to give her a quick and painless death, and buried her somewhere pretty so the kids could occasionally put flowers down for her.This might sound silly, but she was our first and the kids really got on with her. She would fly up to the windows a few times a day to get pats and hand fed whatever leftovers were hanging around. The other chooks do this still but it doesn't hit quite like it did with Florence

All good, they had long fulfilling lives (for chickens) and passed of old age
