Solar Panel Upgrade for New Build

Hi All.

I am building a new house , as part of the build they are throwing in a Solis 15 panel (440 watts) 6.6Kw system and a giving me a Sonnen 11kw battery as an extra for $10k installed normally $15K installed….

Now I rang up a solar company and was chasing a good price on a Tesla PW3 (dreaming) $16k installed…..

Now the issue is he basically said I was stupid for installing a 6.6kw system , I told him it was part of build $0 … He told me to upgrade to at least !0.2kw system , So I asked builder and they said $4100…..

Now, my thoughts are better of going through builder less likely to have issues with damage to roof eg broken tiles etc…..If i install 6.6kw and upgrade later is that feasible, he said he wouldn.t touch someone else's work but have seen ozbargains a response from another solar company saying they would have no issues.

And lastly I see10kw plus systems for 4K…..Is $4100 a good price Also as part of the build all solar rebates for free system go to builder……. So if i add panels later I can get rebates

A rough gauge is $1k per 1kw of panels. So based on that, i'd say it's about on par.

    • thanks, found this obviously i have to leave out rebate because they claim it https://www.3psolar.com.au/10kw-solar-system/
Considering i already have the 6.6kw included thought would have been cheaper to get to 10kw pricing in link is $5391 it does go to 8 kw inverter where my system is 5 kw inverter though. As it's same brand I assume this the unit I will end up with.

Hey mate, the theory behind upgrading to a larger system is that it will give you redundancy for the future. $4,100 is a little on the steep side for the extra power, but not outside the realm of possibility. Make sure your inverter comes with a 10 year warranty. As a guide, this is what we offer residents of Newcastle for a basic, tin, single story roof https://www.newysolarco.com.au/solar-pricing-guide/

    • Thanks solarmannewcastle . I want to go at least 10 kw but asyou said price seems a bit steep considering 6.6kw will already be there as it's a new build it'd not like they putting it up twice. But it is a volume builder and they like to hit on add ons… Most of the add on's are over priced. if it's only $500 to $1000 dearer then I can wear that as I prefer it all goes up once and on warranty side probably less issues……we are only 2 people and 6.6kw is included as a bonus was looking to put on the Sonen 10 kw battery as they will install it for the price that I can buy it so seems good value.
