Mesh Wi-Fi Help/Suggestions

I am wondering what the user experience for someone that is using a Mesh Wi-Fi system. Looking at purchasing soon and wanting hands on experience and possibly comparison to your old router system. I would be using it for general computer browsing/gaming streaming and console gaming.

Would you recommend using a Mesh system or would you prefer your old Router system?

A couple of models I am looking at are..
- TP-Link Deco M4 AC1200
- TP-Link Deco X20 AX1800

  • what have you got now and what are the issues you having?

    • currently running a TP-link Archer 1600 and the wi-fi signal is not great for the opposite end of the house where computing and gaming is done. Essentially wanting to extending the wifi range. but i have tried a "Wi-Fi Extender" in the past

      • Archer is part of TP Link’s OneMesh. Deco devices won’t work with the Archer to make a mesh network. You can try one of the wifi extenders in the onemesh line to extend coverage: https://www.tp-link.com/au/onemesh/product-list/ or alternatively set up an entirely new wifi mesh with a Deco product mix. All Deco products can talk to each other

        • Yeah, it would be either Piggy back off of the original router (with a hard wire the first mesh) i would only think of doing that if the Mesh system wasn't dual band because of smart devices in the home which need 2.4G rather than 5G to operate properly.

  • I am always surprised that people are so skeptical of mesh wifi. We’ve had a couple of different systems in two different houses and they smash a single router.

    • Curiosity setting in here, what Mesh system are/have you used? Also what have you used it for?

  • Are either of your choices tri-band?
