Rice Cookers - What to Buy?

Hey OzPimps, after a hard week slapping down high prices a Pimp gets hungry. Can anyone recommend a rice cooker that woud do an approximation of the Japanese gyudon fast food restaurant rice? Maybe one with a reheat function as well?

    Pimps dont cook for themselves.

    • The real ones do

    Go JDM with a zojirushi

    • Yeah you might be right it'll just need to be permanently run through a pin converting thing

You can get both Zojirushi and Tiger locally with Australian plugs. Same for Cuckoo which is Korean but also very good.

Plenty of cookers protesting the lockdowns outside Parliament House on most Saturdays in the Melbourne CBD, perhaps you could swing by and pick one up

Bro I'm the worst cooker of them all between the Tuskegee experiment and the sinking of the USS liberty I just believe every conspiracy now

      • If you change your mind they’ll probably be there every weekend until Dan Andrews tends his resignation

        • Dan Andrews tends his resignation

          Resignation from what?

    • Wouldn’t a rice cooker be someone who believes the conspiracy theories we are about to be invaded by the Chinese Government?

Rice Cookers - What to Buy?

    A saucepan

    • Nah sadly it's nowhere near as good unless you're a northern Italian chef using it

      • nowhere near as good

        It's better…

  • These are great for rice, and at a good price $34.

  • Be aware of the bride price, it's a real thing.

  • Had a Zojirushi 2 cup rice cooker that we outgrew (was excellent) and replaced it with one of these

Has also been excellent.. got it on sale from Myer a few years ago for $100

Costco sometimes has the Cuckoo ones on special.

We just use our InstantPot but we are WASPs born in the 1960s.

  • There's two great options. If you want to save a buck, get a Panasonic. Otherwise, go for a Zojirushi.

    • I'm leaning towards zojirushi and getting my sister in law to bring one back from Japan (they are a fair bit cheaper), I've heard you can just use a spare PC power cord as we gave similar voltage, does this sound right?

Only if the rice cooker says it supports 240v on the bottom. I looked a couple of instruction manuals for Zojirushi rice cookers on their .jp website and the o es I looked at were 100v only.

        • Ah I see I thought the salesman told me 220v but it's absolutely entirely possible I misunderstood him thanks so much for explaining this

  • Advice from an Asian: any of Tiger, Cuckoo, Zojirushi. Asian grocery stores or ebay sell them

    • Ah sweet thanks here's some advice back Rambo LPG gas burners absolutely rule.

      • Can’t beat Rambo cookers for wok hei. None of the domestic indoor gas cookers can come close.
