I thought this is a good deal for an m3 pro chip with 18gb ram and all the pro features that are included.

  • yeah I think I bought the M4 pro version of this with 24gb of ram and 1tb storage for 3499 from Harvey norman a while ago saved about 500 bucks was a good deal I think for the latest. M3 though you are pretty much buying old stuff now.

Personally I'd be holding off for the rumoured M4 MacBook Airs, especially when you compare M4 vs M3 Pro, they're pretty similar performance.

    • Yes, but the airs will never have promotion 120 hertz displays and a few other things that make the pros pros.

disagree. 120hz improves the quality of experience, irrespective of application.

          • @pennypinching: apple studio display , apple xdr display all 60hz,

I want air's weight 1.2kg and a minled display. XD

            • @kenmizuki: Air's weight is barely less than a pro's weight. Check the specs.

@pennypinching: 1000% so many people think 120hz is only good for gaming. It's no different to phones how 120hz makes the device smoother faster and has a generally better experience.

For playing games, 120Hz display is one thing. One still need the GPU to hit the target frame rate. At the very least hit 60 frame cap for smooth gameplay and this is only feasible for personal campaigns and not when ultra low latency is required (though it is not a big enough player performance indicator).

    • In that case still better to stick with M4 model, as it got an extra usb-C port which is very handy

Air performance will never match the pro, no matter what the specs. The air has no internal fans, so hardware with throttle due to heat. You simply cannot get sustained pro perform a from an air.

    18gb RAM?? Surely that’s a typo for 16?

    • +4

      No, m3 pro's come with a minimum of 18gb. M4 pro's come with minimum 24gb

      • +3

        Damn. I was schooled

The Space Black version is even cheaper at $2,229.99 https://www.costco.com.au/Computers/Laptops/Apple-MacBooks/M…

    • That’s a great deal. Wish I could get apple to match as have apple gift card balance

    • Aren’t they the same?

  • Does officeworks PM require you to show your costco membership card?

    • I think depends on the person you get at OW

  • If my local Officeworks don't have this model in stock, what can I do esp. when it shows unavailable online?

Last time I wanted to buy an Apple Watch SE for my partner (when it was $297) but none of the Officeworks near me had them in stock. We went to one and they didn't have it but they pointed me to another which supposedly had a few left only for us to return empty-handed because they said they didn't have it.

As someone relatively new to Australia, I would appreciate any help.

  • Is deal better than the Amazon one which is for 1TB storage?

Was tossing up between a pro m4 and mba, opted for the mba m3 and the m4 Mac mini through edu and aoc store. Got 2 units for the price of the pro this may not fit everyone’s needs but may be a good solution for some.
