Citrus Flavoured Tic Tac Like Lollies from The Late 70's/Early 80's, Does Anybody Remember What The Were Called?

There were lollies available in Australia similar to tic tacs, in a similar hard plastic container only it was about twice the width. They were green (lime), yellow (lemon) and orange in the one packet. I'm pretty sure they had a fairly simple, one word name. AFAIK they were never available in any other flavours and they were not branded by tic tac. I didn't ever see them after the early eighties, they are not available now as far as I know. I only ever had them in NSW. Any record of what they might be? Bonus points for a picture.

    • The packet is certainly the right size, though as a kid it seemed bigger.

Dynamints look like they are not quite the same size/shape as tic tacs and I'm pretty sure the one's I had were the exact same size/shape as tic tacs.

Anyway, thanks for the response, that is at least a very good clue. Maybe an Australian variant of the same brand.

  • Tried ChatGPT but they didn't know either

Based on your description, it seems you're referring to a discontinued Australian confectionery from the early 1980s that was similar to Tic Tacs, housed in a hard plastic container about twice the width, and featured green (lime), yellow (lemon), and orange-flavored candies. Despite extensive research, I couldn't locate specific information about this particular product.

However, it's worth noting that during the 1990s, Tic Tac introduced double packs featuring two flavors inside a regular container. Available combinations included Tangerine and Lime, Orange and Grape, Berry and Cherry, among others. citeturn0search7

Additionally, the Australian confectionery market has seen various products come and go over the years. For instance, the "Ice Cream Cones" lolly was a popular treat that has since been discontinued. citeturn0search5

While I couldn't find a definitive match for the lolly you're describing, I recommend exploring online forums and communities dedicated to Australian nostalgia. Websites like Reddit have threads where users discuss discontinued lollies and might help you identify the product you're reminiscing about. citeturn0search0

If you can recall any additional details, such as the brand name, packaging design, or any advertising slogans, please share them, and I'll do my best to provide more information.

    • Yeah, I tried Perplexity and got a similar answer. I remember the double packs, now you mention it, but that was much later.

Back in the time I was talking about, Tic Tacs pere pretty much just mint. Orange Tic Tacs was the first flavour I remember being introduced; it was nothing like now with so many different ones.

I think I remember them too, OP. They weren't just regular Tic Tacs were they?

    • No, I'm very sure they were a competitor and not sold by the same company. Even at that age I used to pay attention to stuff like that and was puzzled by the fact that such a similar and specific product was made by a different company. I'm about 95% sure at that time Tic Tac did not come in any fruit flavours. When Orange Tic Tacs came out, and for years afterwards, they were white but in an orange packet. Maybe they still are, I haven't had them for years.

These things were in a clear packet, very similar to the dynamits packet linked above, and they were definetly in 3 citrus colours/flavours.

Now I'm older i think it's possible they may have been made in the same factory but they definetly were not tic tac branded.

      • Yep that helps. Were they the same shape as Tic Tacs? Above you said the box was wider, but what about the lollies themselves? And were they ever available in those red lolly dispenser things a bit like this?

        • Like the one's in Hybroids post above, only they were the same size as tic tacs and those ones shown look like they are more football shaped. Only ever a clear packet. Only ever that one flavour AFAIK.

I completely remember, not sure if I ever tried them though

  • I remember something very similar. The lid opened when you pushed down on the other side.
