Need to Build a PC with a CPU and GPU That I Won

Hey All,

Amazing, I finally won a competition through OzBargain and a special edition Avatar holiday box including both the AMD Ryzen R7-7800X3D processor and AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX graphics card featuring colour changing thermochromic paint. The comp ran in December and it just turned up today. Since I have never won anything like this, I am pretty chuffed.

I have two options, build a PC from scratch and use these parts, or contact a PC place eg. BPC and see if they will configure a compatible PC without these components.

Anyone have any ideas of which route I should take? I have plenty of PC build experience, but as you know things change so quickly and it has been about 5 yrs since my last build.

Cheers,

As you know what you're doing - build your own; PCpartpicker will point you in the right direction for compatible parts.

I'd go parts, usually from ebay. Researching pc parts can be fun.
    MSI b650 board, 32gb 16gb x2 in 6000 cl30, psu of 800W+, 2tb nvme ssd(deals on here) and a case big enough for the chonkas huge 7900xtx.
    have fun with it

and it has been about 5 yrs since my last build.

Is it really that much of a puzzle to put a 'compatible rig' together? you can just copy and paste many of the rigs that people have put up on Pc Part Picker or BuildAPC subreddit and it'll work just fine.

RAM compatibility for example isn't that big of an issue anymore. Especially with DDR5 memory, there is no kit of RAM that is made specific to one platform. To make things easy you can just buy RAM that advertises both EXPO & XMP profiles (these profiles can be though of like shortcuts for RAM overclocking — allowing you to set the speeds they run at from your BIOS. Intel refers to these profiles as XMP, AMD calls them EXPO.)

    Example

Assuming that you're building a standard ATX machine there are very few things you need to consider for in regards to sizing / clearance. For smaller and more compact form factors like Mini ITX that's where you need to do a little planning.

Great AMD prize, congrats especially if it was a surprise (hell of a surprise it would have been!)
I think you'd get more joy out of building your own, with those core components on hand you're set for years!

  • What a great win!
If i was in your shoes, i'd do what others have said. Use pc partpicker to match compatible parts, then buy off Amazon or local major companies. I built a pc 4 years ago, and it was @20 years since i had built a pc (or 50).
I hope it all goes well.
    Again. Congrats.

  • Thanks guys, I will go to route 66 via pc part picker.
lol. It should be fine, we generally save a few dollars building ourselves- ‘It is the way’

  • I just found out there were over 21Million Entries, that was pretty lucky…
