Lightning Deal, 0% claimed when I hit the "Buy" button.

I bought one of these as a stocking stuffer for my brother a couple years ago for around this price. Seller has been banned from OzB but my brief test with the scanner on my own can seemed to show it was fine. I'm willing to take the risk for $12.

Does this work on hsv's 😁

      Only VF's…

Thanks OP, worth a go for 12 bucks.

It advertises as clearing codes, but does it actually? Reviews suggest not.

    • -1

i'm betting it doesnt do it on any semi modern car

the nicer the obd scanner you have the better it is at diagnosing and clearing codes on more modern cars

the $3k unit my mechanic uses seems to do it all

    • +1

I have got one, same brand different model. I'd say it has a 70% success rate. New higher-tech cars not so much but the average cars sub-2019 I don't seem to have too many issues getting codes and clearing.

Sounds perfect for my 02 subie

For $12 it's worth the punt.

          • +2

@n00bis: Yep, if it's useless send back as "doesn't work".

Sounds like it'll work to clear my P0420 code on my 2015 outback… Worth $12 to try…

        • same i get a P0171 code pop up if i go for a long drive in my 06 outback

        • P0420 - Your car might just need a good old fashioned "Italian Tune" up ie: Flog that four like a red headed step child.

the P0171 code - 20 years is very good for O2 sensors - buy OME - or you may have a leak in your recirculating Fuel vapor lines

          • @Thunderdownunder: I don't understand that. But I'm interested!

          • +2

@Thunderdownunder: Follow-up: Device managed to clear the P0420 code no problem. Gave it an 'italian tune up' that night (drove it at 4k rpm on a highway for about 30 mins, and so far, no error code has returned.

          • @Thunderdownunder: Thx .. what do you mean OME? Is that a brand?
            Any idea on cost?

    • I have one. It doesn't clear codes on any of my vehicles (Holden, Hyundai, Toyota). It's reasonable for the price. I ended up getting an XTool D7. Total overkill for what I wanted it for originally, but it's helped fix issues since the original purchase and has really helped friends.

  • I didn't see negative vote on past deal, so why the seller being banned?

It probably only clears (and reads) generic OBD II codes. I doubt it would clear or read any manufacturer specific codes.

    • any recomnnmendation that does the latter ?

      • Not without knowing what car you want to use it on. You can get pretty decent OBD adapters which pair to apps on your phone line Torque. These do a pretty good job, although you may still struggle with manufacturer specific codes. If you do your research, there are $10 ones that are pretty decent. Personally I use an OBDlink LX Bluetooth adapter, it is kind of expensive, but it is good quality and works well for me.

  • is there any better unit for under $100?

    • +1

Id probably suggest the AP200. Connects to phone, and gives you licence for one car specific model diagnostics for life, and can be used as a general OBD2 on all cars. Been great for live data.

      • what if you need more cars?

        • +1

Can buy yearly subscription, think it's like $40ish? per year, per model. At that rate though, I'd probably by one per car, unless it was a one off check.

@MS Paint you impressed any ladies on the side of the road with your one of these scanners yet?

    • +3

Yes. The novelty wore off pretty quick so I sold mine.

      • You got tired of impressing women or the women quickly stopped being impressed?

I bought one last time and it hasn’t impressed anyone including myself. Nearly sent it back but it did work on a family members car I was diagnosing an issue with so I kept it.

        • +1

The novelty of ladies throwing themselves at me to show me their OBD port got boring quickly.

  • +2

    Cheaper than a BigMac meal….

  • Thanks. Ordered one. For that price, even if all it can do successfully is read codes for me, I’ll be happy!

  • I am going to be clearing codes for a $1

  • +7

Has to be better than my last scanner. It just said "Buy a better car, white rice boy".

    • +2

      Clapped out Honda Civic 🤔

      • +3

you know you're getting old when kids don't get VTEC jokes anymore

    • +2

At least yours gave you some helpful-adjacent advice.

The last time an OBD2 scanner was plugged into my car it couldn't stop laughing for a solid 45 mins 😔😔
