FYI S25u no longer has Bluetooth connected SPen so you can't use it to take photos from a distance

Pretty much everything else apart from the CPU/GPU is mostly the same
S25 series is more AI infused too, Good or Bad depending on how much you care about AI

    https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone1=&idPhone1=13…

    • Thanks mever knew that about the s pen

    • +1

New model is lighter with a slightly bigger screen. One camera is upgraded
The big thing about AI is it's not like the older model has nothing… Alot of it is software and many features they show will come with one UI 7.

Even old phones now have Gemini and magic eraser. I asked Gemini 'imagine a cat firefighter' and it made the photo.. took a few seconds.

And 7 years OS support…. I've never had a phone laat me longer than 3 years

      • Benefits of 7 years support to power users is improved resell value.

        • I wonder if the company offering 7 years support would add weight if the ACCC was to make a finding on intended lifespan of the device under Australian Consumer Guarantee.

          • @Bruceflix: You could argue it took android a long time time come up to apple standards with software longevity , a bit to late In my opinion.

            • @Murkymerv: *too. I realise it was probably a typo.

Android is good these days but I know what you mean coming from XDA devices and the Nexus 6P.

        • 7 years feels like its weak if it is not supported by cheaper replacements (like screen replacements, and battery).

          • @Ifndefx: Batteries and performance will be rubbish before 7 years, also with these plan-cancel hacks and decent resale for the previous models it's a free upgrade.

    • You can use the open palm trick for selfies.

      • erm.. thats a feature. not a trick.

      • I'd much rather a closed palm selfie. Oh, we're talking about photos are we?

FYI Retravision have it at the same price and Officeworks have not lowered their price so a chance to get further discount

I wouldn't say that's cheap for a S24U, I sold a mint used one there would be plenty around for 1k to buy.

Get the S25U, much better overall - lighter, cureved edges, much better ergonomics for holding and in your pocket .
That Spen BT isn't a deal breaker, I tried it once the photos were rubbish. seem like the only use of bluetooth for the pen.
Still no UI7 beta for AUS.

You got till midnight tonight for the S25U preorder deal.

No the s25u isnt much better, it has incrimental improvements which dont justify a jump from s24 or even s23U. The good thing about bluetooth spen was the warning on your phone if you left it out and walked away, I guess the s25 no longer does this. If anything the 23U was the last decent jump due to cameras and battery life over the 22U. AI will come to all models so no concern there.

      • If you already have an S24U it's not worth upgrading, but why buy an S24U right now when you can get the newer and incrementally better S25U for a similar price.

        • Yes agree, if you didnt have one and the price is close the smart thing would be to get the latest.

      • Why would you leave the spen out. Couldn't care if it didn't even have a Stylus.

I much prefer it and was good selling the S25U for $850 easily to a store before it's too old. Glad to get rid of the sharp corners, these feel a lot more ergonomic and UI7 is better.

Of course it's incremental updates these days, not leaps and bounds but no point buying a s24 now unless dirt cheap.

So are you saying a its better to pay $700 more so you could get 15grams lighter, and rounded edges, and extra 256 (due to preorder offer) ?

      • Up to you. I don't consider it that much.

Get whatever you think is best, or nothing :).

        • +1

All good I saw the hacks further down - so it looks like its worth it.

      • +1

I paid less than this for a 512GB S25U. Why would you pay more to get last year's model?

  • +1

Debating what to do here, have the S22u 512, had thought of going to a Fold when its released but oh my poor wallet.

25u seems to have gone backwards so I assume the same for the S26u.

    S22u to S24u seems a small change.

    • The rumour is the s26 will debut a new battery tech or finally change the camera up as its big thing. Probably worth it.

Typing from a s25u now, and the cpu deserves some praise. Its very noticably faster. I dont think the price of this phone in the deal (s24u) is worth it.

The jb method would get you a 512gb s25u fpr cheaper, so why not do that? It is a tad more effort but yeah.

      https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y905wNuD9T3vd_rNnNZGRdB2…

Linking this guide for discounts summing up, you'll want the jb one.

    • Still rocking my s22u. Gonna wait until s27 unless i damage this one beyond repair

      • +2

Why not wait until the S30u , sounds like you have the discipline

    • How have they gone backwards? The curved screen on the S22 and S23 are shit (no protection, hard to apply protectors, pointless).

Yeah you never need to upgrade every year, the hardware differences are very subtle these days now.
If you can wait for the S26U or Pixel 10 Pro then maybe that's the go (and sign up early for the pre-reg discount code - $200 this year, which is hard to get now).

Absolutely no reason to buy the S24 over S25 now though, unless it was extremely cheap. Glad to do away with those sharp corners.

    • The S25U is a small upgrade in almost every way barring Bluetooth in the S-pen. No idea where this idea came from that it's gone backwards..

  • Still rocking S21 Ultra 512GB, but I feel like an upgrade now would actually be an upgrade..

Plenty of pre order deals available (ending today) to buy S25U for less than $1,000 so not sure why someone would buy S24U for this price…????
I bought my S25U 256GB for ~$900 from Samsung Education store.

    • some people say $450, is that correct or close to $1000 ?

      • They may be factoring in the value of their trade in device in it, hence, their out of pocket is lower.

I paid $859 with a trade in value of $10. Will be charged $60 device non-return fee, so my out of pocket in total is $929.

        • +1

Can you break that down - I'm seeing pre-order of $2149 for 512gigs on the samsung store.

          • @Ifndefx: I bought it from Samsung Education store where prices are already reduced by 20%. So S25U 256 price on Education store is $1,719.20 and then I applied below further vouchers, codes:

            Galaxy S25 Ultra
            Titanium Jetblack
            256 GB
            Qty: 1 Total: $859.20
            Trade in credit: $10
Your $100 Galaxy eVoucher+ has been applied!
            Voucher applied! $200 eVoucher discount.
            Voucher applied! $400 Trade-In bonus.
            $150 Trade-In bonus applied. Ends 14.02.25.

        • okay. 929 is too high for my budget thanks

These prices don't compare to preorder offers… see if you can still get somethi g through EDU oflr EPP for less. Pretty sure the promo for preorder ends today or tomorrow.

    • +1

      Today is the last day

      • To be clear, midnight tonight aest all those things go away.

  • Any way people that have no access to the education store can still order with similar prices? I just checked but requires log in.. thank you.

  • +1

Honestly the flat screen and improved battery life from CPU efficiency makes s25 worth the extra imo.

    • Improved from what model?

    • Im not sure the battery life is a meaningful amount bigger (havnt had it long enough yet), but the cpu performance jump from the s21u and even s23u is nice. Flat screen is good - finally! -.

S25 JB Pre-order deal with the $99 plan. get $1600 off the phone and then cancel the plan for a $750 fee. End up paying around about ~$1200 for the phone. think that's a far greater deal

    • wait.. 750 fee plus first month 99 = 850 not 1200 ?
how come someone said on the other thread it was all together $450?

      • It takes $1600 off the phone, and they're giving the 512gb version for the 256 price. So you're still paying what $350 for the phone outright?

        • im confused so 350 outright or 1200 for the phone as per your 1st comment?

          • @CyberMurning: Your not getting the S25U outright you still need to pay $350 as they already discount you $1700 for the handset. Then you need to cancel telstra contract and pay ~$766 + $99/month as well on top of your initial payment.

    • +1

Yeah people should go and read that thread.
1600 off if sign up a new number for 1700 off if port in from a non-Telstra network (ie buy an Aldi Sim etc if don't want the 99/m plan). Refund $99.

      • link to the thread ?

          S25 JB Hi-fi

  • 256GB in a modern flagship phone should be outlawed… You will struggle unless most of your media content is in the cloud or streamed.

    • iPhone 16 pro 128GB says hold my beer

256GB isn't too bad if you don't take photos/videos that much

      • I get that. I suppose I have years worth of pictures and videos that is stored on my phone, along with albums that I like having that does not require a internet connection. I was struggling with 256gb for my S21U (having come from a Note 10+ 512gb), moved things to the cloud and 'cold' storage.

    • 256 is still fine, 128 is bad, 64 is crime
