If you'd prefer a different brand, Scorptec has the ASRock Challenger OC model for $449 (sans the $14 discount obviously): https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/graphics-cards/intel/115…

  • +3

What if your CPU/mobo doesn't support resizable bar?

    • +5

      Essentially halves the performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=378GPJH5Pdk

    • Pretty big performance hit I believe

      • That's a shame. I have a 10th gen i5 - I don't think it has resizeable bar does it?

        • +1

Yeah, that should support it. Check your motherboards specs.

        • my 9th gen does, its a gigabyte board

          yours should

    • +5

What if your CPU/mobo doesn't support resizable bar?

Go here and add resizable bar to your mobo : https://github.com/xCuri0/ReBarUEFI

      • wow nice. didn't know uefi bios can be universally modded like that

        • Yeah it doesn't work for everything, but the list of compatible Motherboards on that page is massive.

      • Thanks for sharing, I hadn't even heard of ReBAR until today! several variants with my chipset (Gigabyte B450m) are listed, so I'm optimistic about my chances….

        • +1

all retail AMD AM4 mobos (300, 400, 500 series) should be already have bios update supporting rebar and ryzen 5000 processors.

    • Also keep in mind this card has huge driver overhead issues in some cpu intensive games which means a significant drop in performance on older/weaker cpus. And as others have pointed out if you donr have rebar dont bother with any intel discreet gpu.

Centre Com's Promotion (Assassin's Creed Shadows) Page does not list this MAXSUN B750 GPU.

Intel's Promotion (Assassin's Creed Shadows) Page shows Eligible Intel® Arc™ Graphics Card SKUs may vary by participating seller.

    • +9

I preemptively contacted Centre Com regarding the promotion, and all of the Intel graphics card models (inclusive of the B580 which this deal refers to) are eligible. This can also be confirmed via Scorptec's website.

Should I upgrade from RTX3070 to this?

    • -4

      No, wait for RTX 5060

    • +16

      No thats not an upgrade

  • +1

Worthy replacement for a 1660ti at 1080p? Or any other cheap suggestions?

    • +10

Market is (profanity) right now, there's no good cheap GPU. 4060 is the baseline for entry level

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/891002

Even the used market is (profanity). Rx 6800 was sold for $450 2 years ago and we haven't seen it since. Rx 6600 is the best fps per dollar GPU, but it's been $200 for 3 years now, it should really be a $100 GPU by this point.

      • -1

You will never find an Rx 6600 for $200

They're all over the place. They're pretty available cause they've been the best fps per dollar GPU we had since launch, but people replaced them during the one period when mining boom ended and used GPUs were really cheap.

Heck, I have one in my garage, if someone wanna buy it off of me.

        • Two available for $200 on FB marketplace near me right now! I had no idea ha

      • +1

        Agreed. It's such a joke.

Instead of usual "Hey, we're giving you 25% more FPS for same price", it's now "Hey, we're giving you 25% more FPS for 50% more"

I feel like the only way prices are going to start dropping is in a few years time with next release of Playstation / Xbox, and iGPU's catching up to 1660 performance

        • +1

Still waiting on the verdict on AI 395 max pricing and performances. It looks good on paper.

          • +1

@Wonderfool: Yeah I've heard it could match the 4050 which is insane for an igpu. But I bet they'll charge you like $2k for the privilege…

      • Yeah. Feels bad man.

I want a 4080 to AI upscale some lost media, but a used one along with a Topaz licence makes it a $2000 investment.

    • Wait for sub-$400 4060

Or get one of those 4060 builds for <$800 when they come up

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/4060%20option%3Atit…

    • It's a massive uplift from a 1660Ti, what CPU/Mobo are you running. For me, PUBG went from 120fps to 180fps, Dying light from 60fps to 92fps, Cyberpunk went from 42 to 65fps.

The new XeSS is actually really good as well, you don't get any upscaling options with the 1660Ti, if you are okay with upscaling then the B580 slaughters the 1660Ti if you got to 1440P or 4K.

I am not sure if Maxsun is a reliable brand… what's the consensus? Or is it too early to tell?

    • +3

Maxsun is pretty popular for their motherboard. Budget price for a mid range motherboard.

For gpu, they had no presence outside of China

    • Motherboard died within a year

      • +1

        Damn that's rough

    • +1

I did some research on this prior to purchasing, and the consensus was that the brand was perfectly fine, but uncommon beyond Chinese markets. Their warranty period is three years, like most other manufacturers.

  • This or a 5060?

    • +16

Depends, do you want to play games now or in Christmas?

  • +9

For the Intel B580 card you should be aware that matching it with an older CPU will yield some overheads you don’t seem to get with other GPUs. HUB has a great video about this. At 1440p it performs around 10% slower with a Ryzen 5600 vs a 9800x3D. At 1080p it’s more like 20%. If using upscale techs it’s even worse.

  • Do you still get ass cre shadows if you bought b580 from the initial offering?

  • If I was looking to get a gpu for my plex machine that has an amd chip, is it worth getting something like this for transcoding, or would I be better off sticking to the alchemist series? It won't have any gaming on it, just plex and services, and maybe some docker stuff, but nothing too crazy I think?

    • Certainly not an expert in this area, but my feeling is that the A580 for $259 or A750 for $299 might be the better value options for your intended use case.

    • +1

For pure transcoding(jellyfin/plex), Multi-Format Codec Engines are responsible. If you check the arc page for these GPUs, all of them use same number of engines (2). So they will perform identically for pure transcoding. If you are going to use GPUs for other tasks, then you will benefit from going bigger and better.

      • Thats why the a310 is popular for home servers.

      • Awesome, thanks to know! I wasn't quite sure what to look at between the A and B series!

  • +1

Patiently waiting for the low profile B580 that was teased last year…

  • Intel Arc A310 for a plex server seems a nice option.
    Thoughts?

  • -4

bad card w/ free bad game

    • +1

Care to elaborate? If you're aware of the drawbacks (i.e., poor performance for hardware configurations lacking ReBAR and in games using older versions of DirectX when not using a translation layer such as DXVK) prior to purchasing, then it compares very favourably to its direct competitors (i.e., RTX 4060 and RX 7600 XT). It has better performance in modern games (i.e., ~5-20% across various resolutions), increased VRAM (i.e., 12GB vs 8GB), and reasonably mature software features given the brief amount of time that Intel has been competing in this market segment. There are always tradeoffs, and it's up to the consumer to decide which are the dealbreakers.

  • I wonder if it's worth getting a used 3060 or this?

    • +1

Definitely get the Arc, I went from a 3060 to B580 , and also a 1660Ti to a B580 and the games I play are noticeably better, and you are getting current gen features and support going forwards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LslijvBfh3w

    • +1

Depends on your CPU. B580 is very CPU dependent and can up to 40% performance lost due to overhead.
