Recommendations for Rangehood < $1500

I'm looking to get a new 90cm wall mounted canopy rangehood.

My current one has about 600 m^3 extraction rate on full fan.

Ideally I would like to replace this with something that is stronger.

Any there any recommendations?

Do I just get anything that can just give me a better extraction rate?

A lot of people recommend really expensive rangehoods with external motors, but I don't think I want that and I don't think it's possible in my house set up.

  • Is your current hood ducted or recirculating? Here's good place to browse

    • It's ducted.

  • I got a Sirius rangehood from E&S. $1100 + ~$440 installation.

    • +1 for Sirius

  • I just have a fan in the ceiling.

    • me too :D I thought I was the only one, I don't have gas though

External is the way to go if you can make it work.
    So much quieter.
Ours at full speed ~1300m^3 is only around as loud as my old internal fan rangehood on low speed.
It's so quiet on low speed that we've accidentally left it on overnight on a number of occasions.

    • Do these have motors on the roof or in the roof cavity?

      • The motor is on the roof, in the shroud extending past the roof line that the duct leads to.

    • What brand of rangehoods have external motors? Would like to investigate installing one for our home.

External motor and youll never go back. Quiet, powerful efficient, easy to clean.

  • We reno'd a few years ago. Our Fisher and Paykel has touch buttons, which are a pain, as you cant use them just by feel. Look for real buttons, especially if the rangehood is relatively low and you'd need to bend underneath to turn it on / off every time.

  • We have an Electrolux 90cm one and does a good job with our Chinese style cooking.

  • Fotile rangehood - fantastic in eliminating cooking smells/smoke and super easy to clean

    • Yeah I’ve heard of these Asian brands including Robram.

So do you just clean a metal cover? Do you find oil dripping from the fan still with this type of filter?

      • That's right - it's super easy to clean the metal cover. No oil dripping unless you haven't cleaned it for months and months. Best of all how it drafts up the cooking smells and smoke compared to traditional rangehoods. Switches on/off with a wave of my hand and pretty quiet too.

I use this 80cm one for a large 90cm gas stove, love that it mounts in a cabinet for extra storage. It's made in Italy and $599.

Note that my first one had a dodgey bearing and was making squeaking noises but IKEA replaced it and reimbursed us for labour to have it swapped over.

    5 years warranty is good.
