Timezone is a great place to teach children how to gamble.

    • +3

      and how to save money!
never buy credits at full price!
even 100 buying 200 is not that great
      wait for 80 gets 200!

      • -1

        wait for 80 gets 200!

This only happens twice a year or so.

        • +1

that's enough for a whole year credits.

        • So it also teaches kids to gamble responsibly? Wow! Timezone does it all!

      • Only true ozbarginers do 80 for 20 with 15% off gift cards.

  • These double dollar deals are making customers expect this as the regular price due to how frequently the promotions are being offered..

    • +1

This is called market segmentation, my friend. They maximise their profits by offering each segment the price they are willing to pay.

      • Many people won't care and buy whenever they like, at full price. It's more expensive but more convenient.

      • Cheap-asses (a.k.a. OzBargainers) will wait for these deals. It's cheaper but you have to wait.

  • I remember the old Timezone ads 'Get in the Zone, TimeZone!'

  • How many times on avg do i need to play claw machine to actually pick up the plushie?
Remember it used to be 5-6 attempts earlier.. how much it is now?

    • +6

You generally play it until you get so frustrated that you want to break the plexiglass and grab the plushie yourself. You then leave the area so as not to create a scene, and the next person to jump on the machine will get the toy on their first attempt.

claw machines are skilled based, there is no average

      • Definately no skills… the bs claw always limp dik when it picks up something…

        • yeah i know, but you just got to get it to limp dik in exactly the right spot and it will just be strong enough to hold it, the chances of getting the exact right spot are slim, but if you are bad at positioning the claw, you will never win, if you are good, you will win more often, there is definitely a skill factor

      • thats BS… it literally lifts the plushie, moves it lil and then throws it.. you keep on doing 5-6 times and bam, here's the toy that you just won by spending slightly more than what it costed them to import from China/Vietnam.

      • +1

claw machines are skilled based, there is no average

Only if the machines are set to be "fair", with the same grip strength each try, which is rare.

More often than not, the machines are deliberately programmed to have abysmal grip strength, and only have "normal" grip strength if no prizes are pulled after every so many tries are made.

It's the same with any other "skilled-based" machines with electronic inputs. They can be programmed to add/remove virtually imperceptible delays between your input and when the machine responds, so you always just barely miss getting the prize until you feed enough money into the machines.

    • +2

      Depends on the venue/machine.

So we can tell if a machine is going to let you win more frequently or if it is only going to be a once in a blue moon chance when the claw actually grips properly. If you test on am easy item and find the claw can actually pick it up then that is a good machine to use and is in its payout cycle or the settings are good.

Machines where they have set the claw to be really loose as the default or not in its payout cycle we don’t both with.

Source. I have a mountain of toys at home for our kids and we give away stacks.

  • OzBargainers really like these Timezone deals - at least more than I'd expect given it's non-tangible, non-permanent entertainment at a fairly steep price (vs. a PS5 for example). Is it because a lot of people here have kids? As a DINK I've always considered Timezone wildly expensive for what you get.

    • +2

Arcade machines are MUCH more expensive than a console, and there are a LOT of arcade exclusives that are still in arcades, such as Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune, Mario Kart Arcade GP, VR attractions such as Virtual Rabbids, rhythm games with unique controls such as MaiMai and Sound Voltex, and rail shooters like Halo Fireteam Raven and Jurassic Park.

There's a lot of arcade games that haven't been ported to other platforms, especially outside Japan.

    • +1

If I had space in my rental to put a $20,000 Pump It Up machine, I would. For now, Timezone will have to do.

  • +1

Being back the 90's Super Sunday lockin sessions. You used to pay $8 for 2 hours of unlimited games. The only difference is back then all the games were either pinnies or arcade games and hardly any redemption games. Now day's it all carnival games where you can waste $30 in about 5 mins. The theshold on the claw games is so far against the player.

  • Does this offer include bowling …. I have few gift card which I could use to load timezone credits.

  • whatever happened to the "Kingpin" $600 credit for $250, havent seen it in ages

  • Great for picking up single mums while keeping the kids entertained.

    • Does it really work 😳

  • Can these be used to pay for the birthday parties celebrated at timezone?

    • Negative.

  • +1

Better to buy in store if you have HSBC Everyday Global Visa Debit Card and get $2 cashback on $100 load.

  • i dont think there are bonus powertickets for this promotion.

    • Thanks, fixed.

  • -2

Still based on skill to win, there are different methods to win even if claw is loose there's many loop holes, play it long enough and U will learn!
