1kg Bulk Pack Matcha Powder $129 (Was $199) Delivered @ MY CHA

70

I have been looking around for cheaper matcha powder and found this online which has free shipping.

Currently I am buying Ujinotsuyu Hagoromo Macha Power 40g for $6 which I use for my home made ice cream.
Not sure if buying 1kg will be a good idea and if it would last for half a year or more without going bad.

Happy to hear if others know of cheaper matcha powder but still has good quality.

As someone who just got back from Japan. And spent most of my trip buying Matcha (and Wagashi tools). I can tell you that no one in Japan labels Matcha "Ceremonial". I've only ever seen it labeled on products sold outside of Japan. There's a shortage at the moment in Japan and the high quality matcha is a little hard to obtain. I even went to Marukyu Koyamaen's factory to buy a 20g tin of Matcha. As for buying 1kg of matcha… I personally drink 2 matcha's a day and I only use about 100g of matcha a month. The quality matcha companies normally suggest you consume their matcha within a month of opening the tin. But they can be kept in the fridge for longer. I know I must sound like a matcha snob. But once you've had the good stuff or you've found the matcha you like. It's hard going back to the stuff they sell us in Australia. Especially when I know how much the good stuff is sold for in Japan. If I can get the good stuff. I have matcha straight. If I can only get the Australian quality stuff. I have it as a matcha latte. Having said all that. I've never tried this particular matcha so I have no idea how it tastes…

Short of getting the good stuff from Japan. These are my recommendations for easily accessible matcha:
For matcha lattes: Otsuka Green Tea Co. (Amazon)
For the mildest tasting matcha: T2 matcha.
For matcha straight. I'd suggest T2 or Teafy (Amazon).

The Otsuka is a bit bitter to have as a straight matcha. But the bitterness works well in lattes.
The T2 is very mild and lacks character. But it's probably the easiest one to start you on the matcha journey. But it's kind of expensive…
The Teafy has a bit of a grassy note. But I haven't found an easy to get matcha with a better taste.

As mentioned above. I've never tried this brand. And I have a collection of matcha to go through before I buy anymore "Australian brand matcha".

That's no where near enough blood in your matcha stream. You should try snorting or shelving it.

Not the words I would use to describe you.

no one in Japan labels Matcha "Ceremonial"

Same reason no one in China uses Google.

    • Anyone tried this for a latte?

I get it from here. https://matchaleaf.com.au/?

Very fast delivery and no complaints about quality.
Seperating into small batches, then vacuum sealing and freezing allows it to be kept for a long time if you buy bulk.

Not cheap but this is where many of the cafés I went to in Kyoto were sourcing their matcha from.
