Can I Search My Own Comments?

I have made a LOT of comments on OzBargain, and occasionally I want to search for something I previously said, e.g. "I remember I recommended an esim to someone, where is that comment, I want to see if that esim is still available".

I can't find a way to search for this. I looked through https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:search

I tried:
esim user:58622
esim from:58622

Neither worked, I had to go page-by-page through My Account>Comments, and even then that only lists the titles of the deals I commented in.

Is there an easier way? I used to use Google, but Google "forgets" listings after a period of time, so I can't search old posts.

Comments

  • Unfortunately it's not possible at the moment — search indices are generated against a node page which includes the content + comment all meshed together. We don't have a search index for individual comments.

    • Thanks, it wasn't any of those, it was this comment:

Although it's still available, and still a good price, it's not the same offer for the esim. No longer does it say "uses IIJ DoCoMo", and no longer offers unlimited data at slow speed after you've used the allocated amount of data.

Maybe this could be made a paid feature of Premium OzBargain.

      It's free for platinum members

      • I also have it as prime member

        • I heard you can download this feature on the thepiratebay

If it helps, you can try to do google searches of specific websites which might help narrow down if you know some text you said (and its public) eg searching for: "site:ozbargain.com.au esim russ"

      Thanks, that works well!

I had tried that, typing that string into the URL bar of my browser, but it didn't originally work and now I know why. My browser had been set to use DuckDuckGo as the default search engine, and it provides way fewer matches than Google does.

The search results from DuckDuckGo look superficially the same as Google's search results, so it took me a while to twig that I was using the wrong search engine. D'oh!

Try google, you can add terms and limit the results to a particular site. Worth a try:

    "russ" "esim" site:ozbargain.com.au
    https://www.google.com/search?q=%22russ%22+%22esim%22+site%3…

Here is one of the hits:

edit: and this is what happens when you don't read the thread properly, this was exactly what the above person said. Ignore me.

    • I like the way the top result using your link is this thread.

      • Surprises me how quick ozb posts appear on Google

Sometimes I'll google a word someone used in a comment and the only result will be that post, even if it's a few hours old

    • this is what happens when you don't read the thread properly

I've done the same myself, as have a lot of other OzBargainers. Thanks anyway for helping!
