Or buy a similar one for $80 from BigW

    • If you dont need temperature control, this is an excellent option.

Or just buy a kettle and heat water when you need it. It's bloody expensive to keep boiling water at the ready.

    • +6

It only heats what you need. This is more energy efficient if you use it for a cup or two each time. However, if you are using the hot water regularly, a well insulated kettle would be more efficient. This is faster too if you're only making a cup or two but sloweer if you are making a large batch

Gotcha. So more like capsule coffee machine tech just without the capsule.

        • Exactly. Except that the capsule tech works at about 70c (I tried messing with the resistor in one to get it to dispense water at 95c, but it started leaking from the joints as it's not built with a great deal of extra leeway)

  • I'm assuming it only heats the water thats being dispensed, so if were to use it as a kettle would this be any quicker?

    • Wondering the same and if this process has any power saving verse using a kettle?

    • If you are only doing one or two cups at a time then this would be quicker. Any more then that and a kettle would be better.

Chuck your kettled water in a insulated container

These are great for anyone with adhd. When I used a kettle I constantly would boil it, go away to do something else, then have to reboil the kettle. Now I just put a teabag in a cup, push a button, and come back to a lukewarm cup of tea

  • I just zap it in the microwave

  • People with coffee machines dont forget you already have one of these built in

Had a great kettle. Bought one of these and threw the kettle away. Enjoyed quiet, quick (q)hot (q)water for a while. 6 weeks later I went and bought a new great kettle and donated the hot water dispenser to a nursery who needed it for children’s bottles. Good idea, but it doesn’t dispense water as hot as a kettle, and you’re limited if you want to get a decent amount of hot water into a pot to boil for pasta, etc. Look at how difficult it is to get a pot under that spout. If you’re only going to use this as a vehicle for quick water for instant coffee, rush out and buy it now. For anything else, avoid.

    • You mean use it as it is designed for? 😆

      • Fair point. I’ll take the deserved neg :-(

    • If you check the reviews, a common complaint about this Westinghouse model is its poor temperature control and inconsistent water dispensing. Also you should consider buying products for their intended use to avoid disappointment.
