I've been keeping an eye on a few advent calendars for Christmas and this one has finally dropped in price. It's been a similar price closer to Christmas for those that don't have the space and want to risk it. It's been sitting in about $24 for a while so I wouldn't pay much attention to the rrp.

Amazon seem to be matching Big W but they have limited stock and much prefer buying from Amazon due to possible risk of cancellation.

We used this advent calendar and I have mixed feelings about it. The stories were good and basically book versions of actual episodes, but every second day was a colouring book. The last thing I want my kid to be doing at bed time is a colouring book.

      Agreed

Then don’t let them use it before bed? I don’t see the problem.

Basically, even at $12, probably not value for money. But each to their own.

        ok

        • I really don't understand? Why not just not open it before bedtime? Or tell them they can look at the book but we'll colour it in tomorrow. Where's the problem?

@PainToad: I just gave my honest opinion on the advent calendar. Didn't ask for your advice.

@rad000: I'm not giving advice. I'm trying to understand your opinion.

It's like someone posting a deal for breakfast cereal and commenting "I don't like eating breakfast cereal for bedtime". Then don't eat it before bed?

              • +5

@PainToad: My kids (and my wife and I as children) always opened our advent calendars first thing in the morning. My kids have to find the elf on the shelf before they can open theirs, but it was never a 'before bed' tradition.

Google AI says most families do it before breakfast 🤷

Though to argue against PainToad, the last thing I want my kid to be doing at breakfast time is a colouring book. /s

                  @King Steuart:

always opened our advent calendars first thing in the morning

                  Yep.

@King Steuart: Our toddler basically wakes up early to open the advent calendars, doesn't matter if he can barely open his eyes. In some ways it would be nice to have advent calendars every day. It can be hard to wake him up and get ready for the day.

@PainToad: I love cereal before bed, please don't take this away from me…

With you on this one, my first thought was "you give your kids the stimuli and excitement of opening something new and kid's entertainment related right before bed?".

Even that aside coloring books seem a cheapy way to produce these, not sure about other homes but we have no shortage of coloring books so if half of these were coloring books instead of books I'd be disappointed.

    • I thought same in our household.

  • For some reason Amazon won’t deliver this item to Darwin? Its available for delivery everywhere else

  • I've been keeping an eye on a few advent calendars for Christmas

I love it! everyone else looking for cheap Easter stuff and you're already doing Christmas. that's next level planning! Although whenever I do Christmas stuff in the middle I can never find it until after Christmas

All the Bluey books we have a crap tbh

  • I thought this advent calendar was fine but can understand some people not liking having so many colouring books.

  • This was a great advent calendar for our little ones, after breakfast and morning routines every day, they were always very excited to open the next one.

I think they were more excited by these than the chocolate advent calendars they've had in the past.

  • Have bought this twice before. First time she was too young for the colouring books, second time at the age of three she was happy to get more colouring books.

    Good set at this price.
