Price Jacking Incoming for 5080 and 5090 from Oz Retailers

Anyone looking at the 50 series cards, be warned that starting to see our e-tailers jack the prices up before any restocks come.

Centrecom has already added 200/300 bucks onto many of the 5080 SKUs. I'd imagine others will do the same.

Please avoid paying inflated prices for products that were not even available to purchase at the already expensive starting prices.

Just wanted to encourage us all to hold the line and save our money.

I'm waiting for the 80 series.

That’s the best time to buy 60 series

I can't remember the last time NVidia cards weren't price jacked and overly expensive tbh. Even without price jacking they're overpriced. Maybe the 2xxx series? Or 1xxx?

    • Yep. It always happens, but especially with prices being overly inflated this time already (Oz Tax) it stings even more. Remember the days when a product was just there and you could go buy it?? Those were the days.

    • The 2080 ti release was pretty bad, because it was basically a Titan card but cost half as much. They also had two versions that were exactly the same, except the "A" version cost $200 more.

Of course, that's nothing compared to the 3xxx, but Nvidia were starting to realise they could just start charging whatever and people would pay for it.

    79 series thanks

    • 69 series is nicer value imo

  • I got a deal, I bought a Radeon 9800XT and an Nvidia 9800GTX from ebay before the price rises

hope they don't sell and they just sit on shelves. I'm passing on the 50 series, too little uplift in performance too big an uplift in price.

I think people should break out of the upgrade cycle anyway. If your current card works alright just stick with it. I'll get a 5080 when I can (and at lesser price) because I'm coming from such an old card that struggles to load the menu's now. If you had 30 or 40 series though, there really isn't a need. Unless you want to go up a tier. Like 3060 to 5070 etc.

    I bought a 4060 Ti for $300.

No need to join the rat race. Make your own mind up.

Do you realise the AUD has dropped a lot against the USD recently? So most expensive things from the US should be increasing in price.

    • It helps if you check you facts before posting. The AUD has gone up slightly in value since the release of the 5080/90. On the release date it was 62 cents. Today it's 63 cents.

    • Yeah sorry bud, but that really shouldn't be related at all. It may end up being tariff related, but the prices here are already overinflated (Oz Tax) compared to the USD —> AUD exchange.

        i mean its 1c

even if it went up today it makes no difference to stuff bought FOB weeks ago

OVERALL the currency isnt great and there's wayyy greater demand out there in US EU and CN

Aust. with just 25 mil plebs only gets dregs…

  • Is it really price jacking when its the manufacturers that are increasing the MSRP's for these cards?

    • +1

Yep. Still price jacking. It might not be the retailer's fault, but the jacking is occurring regardless. Can't blame a 10% tariff for a 12.5% increase. It's the AIBs and Distributors that are likely to blame, but the message to everyone is the same. HOLD THE LINE! Don't pay these silly prices.

      • i'm with you but the reality is people will pay above rrp to get these and i'm not talking about a mere 25 mil. people

the only way to win is to not play

nvidia is selling bulk AI cards to deepseek and openAI - that's what they're interested in

i'm sure jensen is just f'ccing with gamers because he can

  • In case you don't know about what really happens when new card launch.

If you are a retailer. new cards coming out, you have a choice to make.
one is to buy lots of old cards to get allocation of one new card. (old card won't have any discount)
or take lots of crap bundled with one new card.

Either way Nvidia will do that to brands, they will clear out their old stock before giving allocation of the new ones.
And The brands will pass that to distributors. And distrbutors will pass that to retailers.
And retailers, they will clear out the junk by writting them down, and adding the writedown cost to new cards.

So best thing you can do when new card releases, check what is on special, either old cards, keyboard and mouse, or some other stuff.
The jacked up price is not really going into resellers profit, it is going to some products they need to clear off as part of the bundle.

Some people might say, well, how about retailers just not take crap, wait till new card supply is ample and then just take them and sell cheap.
    It doesn't work.

First, you have a top tier partner program, which gives you (a retailer) a lot of perks, including price protection, promotion (as eligible reseller) and other benefits as well as potential brand rebate.

Secondly, by the time supply is abundant, you probably won't sell many, your customers might already left and bought from those who have stock early.

For those who telling people not pay jacked up price, I completely support you as a fellow consumer.
But sadly, the reality is majority of the first allcoation coming into Australia, probably already on its way to middle east and india, and majority of them will make way into China and few other places.
The ones who is actually selling to average walk-in customers who only wants a card and nothing else, are the ones who actually cares about their real custromers.
They actually going through a lot more trouble and probably make less profit by selling just the card.

so really, other than Nvidia and some exporters, no one is really winning in this.

    • Similar to how Hollywood forces you to buy a bunch of junk films to get the good one. nVidia isn't really the one forcing the bundling or the pricing, it's the distros and AIBs doing that. PCCaseGear has been the most transparent I feel with this. https://www.pccasegear.com/rtx5000. They even mentioned why the prices will be higher due to them having to buy junk stock to get one card. The frustrating thing is that as consumers we really have no way of punishing the distributors, and the resellers don't have much of choice.
