First-time poster here, so go easy on me!

I’ve only recently started playing pickleball, and I’ve been looking for a good paddle at a decent price. Found the Vatic Pro Flash/V7 16mm on Amazon for $169, down from $215, which is the lowest price recorded on CamelCamelCamel.

For those unfamiliar, Vatic Pro paddles are well-regarded for their high-quality carbon fiber surface, offering great spin, control, and power—often compared to much more expensive paddles. A solid choice for intermediate to advanced players.

If you’re looking for a great-value paddle, this seems like a good pickup!

    Pickleball Paddle – $169

    2 for $15 here…

Exactly jv. This is all about fashion / status / keeping up with the jones's.

I predict that 2025 will see our first ozb deal for a $200+ pickleball paddle.

I don't pickle balls, but I do squash and have previously played tennis quite a bit. The difference between a $50 racquet and a $200 one is insane.
I can only assume it's the same for Pickleball paddles.

What about for table tennis ?

    • DCA and HODL

  • Looks decent. I just imported a paddle from Friday (popular US brand) for $120ish and it’s excellent. A lot of the local ones go for over $200 hey.

  • You’re taking the pickle, right?

"First-time poster here, so go easy on me! I’ve only recently started playing pickleball"

    ….welcome…

These "pickleball" racquets look like swingball racquets from the 80's. Why on earth are people paying this kind of money??

I can understand paying a lot for a tennis racquet, to gain a tiny but crucial competitive edge… but paying $170 for a pickleball racquet seems more like a fad/ fashion, than anything else.

    • I've used a few now and it makes a big difference. Not as big as table tennis but similar levels to squash, badminton and even tennis

      • -1

But why do pickleball racquets are in general more expensive that tennis ones?

        • +3

I think it's more that pickleball is a smaller sport and, therefore, the paddle options are: cheap and accessible; or, super expensive and "fancy"

Unlike tennis which is much more popular worldwide which means there's more people playing and thus more racquet options (a complete spectrum from "cheap and accessible"->"more expensive, but not insane"->"super expensive").

          • @astevens: or maybe its just way too hyped right now

            • @meong: A bit of both I feel. astevens is spot on but there's also just a bit of a mark up because Pickleball is generally played by older people who have more money I feel. I was shocked at their prices at first but the quality of bat makes a huge difference and people are willing to pay for that difference.

"The cost will be what the market can bare"

I don't think they are? High end tennis racquets cost a lot more than this.

Both sports have entry level, intermediate and high end options available

I just purchased one of these last month and it was the worst paddle I've ever used. No variation, every shot did the same thing and it felt hollow. Maybe I just got a dud but I'd recommend instead trying a six zero or joola paddle

  • I've only recently started playing pickleball, and I've ordered a T700 carbon fiber 16mm pickleball paddle from Temu for only $27

As a beginner, an cheap paddle is good enough IMO

  • Anyone have any recommendations for a set for beginners?

    • Two paddles or four paddles and a net?

      • two paddles

If it's your first ever time playing that most paddles will work. The brands I've found to be consistently good are Head, Gearbox, Joola and especially Six Zero. I would try to pick up any paddles from those brands. Also be careful of second hand paddles, the surface of the paddle can be ruined by playing outside / letting grime get on it / general use

          • @tassietigermaniac: thanks for the great advice. I was starting to look on FB Marketplace but I'll be careful

  • Use to play the same game as kids using totem tennis raquets.

  • I have a weird idea……

  • I haven't bought a paddle yet, mainly because I can't find a physical store that has a good range. From my experience, the feel of the paddles varies quite a bit so I'm not game to buy one online, especially if it's $100-200. Does anyone know of any stores in Melbourne that have a decent range of beginner to intermediate paddles? Rebel sport only has 3-4 and they're all pricey.

    • After a quick google… why do all of your stores only have HUSTL paddles???

I spent about 15 minutes going through the google maps list and all the stores seem very limited. Hobart has a really good store called Offcourt Sports that will let you test lots of different brands

Edit: If these guys let you test paddles the Head paddles are worth testing
