Hey Folks,

Hope everyone had a wonderful break!

After a wonderful December and ‘interesting’ January we’re super excited to be getting back into the swing of things.

As you’ve probably heard, coffee prices are going up and supply into Australia is going down. Still, I thought it might still be handy to give a bit of extra context to this. On the cafe side, the click bait around $12 lattes is doubtful given these increased costs should only be adding 0.50~ to the average cup of coffee. However, a lot of cafes might use this as an opportunity to ‘correct’ their underpriced drinks. So while $12 is doubtful, prices are definitely going up. For the coffee that we sell, we’re expecting to see an increase of a couple of dollars per kg on average. The big ‘if’ here is just how high the global prices go.

Now, back to the fun stuff!

We’ve got all our popular blends back on deck (Candid, AXIL and even Proud Mary!). On the single origin side of the fence, we’ve got a deliciously versatile washed coffee from Diofanor Ruiz in Colombia. While on the filter side of town, we’ve got a natural fruit bomb from Jenita Lebang in Indonesia.

Shipping update

After some very challenging experiences with Auspost in January, we’ve decided to make the big step of testing CouriersPlease for Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. Time frames will follow that of Parcel Post (Pickup date, transit times etc.) but we will be monitoring it closely to ensure the performance is up to our standards.

Feel free to reach out with any questions or recommendation requests :)

Cheers,
Tim

  • ordered few days ago - liking the new package on candid

    • Thanks! Did you get the compostable package?

      • I got the brown colour one (previously it was white). is it compostable one?

        • +1

Sorry! I was thinking of the satchel which is compostable. The brown bag can be recycled through groups like Reground. We're currently working on setting up a partnership with Reground for both used grounds and these bags. Watch this space :)

Always love your work mate, and your transparency.

I hope CouriersPlease works out for you, and it won't affect my orders with you because I am a longtime customer/fan of your business and way of doing things, but as a general rule I don't order from anyone who uses those guys because they are TERRIBLE - even for courier standards. Like I said, I hope it's not the case with your business.

Will be placing my usual order tonight! :-)

Really appreciate your honest feedback on this.

For greater transparency, they lost almost 100 of our parcels last month. We were very grateful for the understanding of so many customers, and I know part of this is because of the reputation Auspost has (pros and cons!).

However, the end result is we replaced, refunded or gave credit for over $4000 worth of coffee. And Auspost have paid out a grand total of $109 in compensation…

A big part of this trial is also to diversify our risk so we aren't as reliant on one carrier. I don't foresee a situation where we remove Auspost, and even know you can guarantee Auspost by selecting the Express Post option.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your position on Auspost?

      Cheers,
      Tim

Wow, that's terrible. Really sorry to hear it. Completely get your rationale for diversifying risk as well, hope it works out!

Things are tough enough without having to wear costs that should be borne by a fast declining service (Auspost) - which probably gives you the answer on what I think of them. To counter that, I typically select express post option - and may have to continue with that even with the higher cost - which tells you a little more of what I think of CP - I am happy that others in this thread have had more positive experiences with them - maybe I have just been unlucky because every single instance has been either diabolical, or just plain terrible. At some point my luck has to turn, right!?

My experience with Couriers Please has been shocking as well. Right up there with Aramex. For non-business deliveries, I've been very fortunate to have a reliable AusPost driver. The app has also been reliable in tracking shipment progress.

          • @youfnc: Oof, Aramex, another almost proud-to-be-bad hall-of-famer! Yeah, same, AusPost has been OK with me for these orders and elsewhere, generally.

  • I have had maybe 4 deliveries from you with CouriersPlease and couldn't be happier. Deliveries are on time with live updates of the driver's location
